Upgrades from Amsterdam to Auckland?

Hello all. First time poster but long-time reader.

My wife and I are planning a trip to the north and south islands of NZ in mid-October with a stop in Australia on the way home. I've been looking at AMS>DBS>BNE>CHC, AKL>BNE, BNE>DBS>AMS at €1484, all S on Qantas with Emirates codeshares.

Any tips for getting out of economy? Would really appreciate your help.

Oh, and we're both BA silver.

Welcome to FT!

As this involves travel on Qantas-ticketed flights, I'm moving this thread to the Qantas board.

I guess this is AMS-DXB-BNE-CHC and AKL-BNE, BNE-DXB-AMS
The only way you will upgrade is with a credit card paying the $$$ for a business class seats.

You can only upgrade QF flight numbers on QF aircraft with QF points,
You can only upgrade EK flight numbers on EK aircraft with EK points.
This is subject to an eligible booking class. Low cost QF fares are usually not able to be upgraded.
You cannot upgrade codeshares with QF or EK points. Or with BA avios.
There is likely to people with high QF and EK status on your flights

There are several threads about UK/Eu to/from NZ/Aust on the BA forum

BA fly to SYD, but you chances of a BA upgrade very low to nil. A popular long haul route.
You will get BA avios for a QF marketed flight (QF number) operated by EK.

I'm assuming you're querying points upgrades and not op-ups. You can only request an upgrade on Qantas operated and marketed flights using Qantas points, and the same for Emirates.

OP has stated fare class is S.

This should not be an issue, QFF T&Cs:

16.1.4 Classic Upgrade Rewards are not available when travelling on:
b) Discounted Qantas International airfares, including Points Plus Pay - Flights booked in E,N,O and Q class;

BUT: will be subject to the usual QFF Upgrade Lottery.

Regards,

BD

But the OP is BA silver so probably does have QF points.
And cannot upgrade an EK operated QF marketed codeshare flight. Guess all the long haul is on EK aircraft.

the easiest way to get out of economy is to purchase a business class ticket.

The flights mentioned seem all to be QF codeshares on Emirates and not aware of any mileage type upgrades that would be available

if you have more budget, China Airlines has business class from Amsterdam at EUR2500 - quite a pleasant airline - not the best business class product , but not bad and a lot more pleasant than economy on EK

Thanks, everyone. That other conversation is helpful, too.

I'll check out the China Airlines option. I'd prefer OW, but to avoid economy for those flights I'd be willing to look elsewhere.

On the BA forum there are threads about cheap business class flights from Oslo OSL
Will be down to a choice of OW flight in economy vs a non OW airline in business classs vs money
