Qantas experience.

It is always good to share experiences regarding airlines and flights, after all that is what Flyer Talk is about. So thank you Aze for sharing your experiences and thoughts.

I would however like to share some of my thoughts.

Emirates are not a One World member. They have a global partnership with Qantas enabling codeshare and earning of Qantas points and status credits.
Should you wish to travel to Europe on a One World Airline, you can choose airlines such as Cathay and Qatar, but they do not normally earn as many Qantas points as flying Qantas.
As others have suggested you may find better value for points and status with another alliance such as Star Alliance. They have suggested various airlines.

In your comparison between Qantas and Emirates you are not comparing like with like.
Your agent mistakenly booked a flight with an EK flight number, and then Emirates cancelled the flight. When they rebooked you the next day you were upgraded to Business. No doubt this reflects the fact that Emirates made the upgrade to make up for their cancellation. In addition Emirates often oversell Economy, so upgrades to Business are not uncommon.

In the case of Qantas you are looking at maintaining Status and a 50% extra SC offer. You indicate that flying QF back to Australia with 50% extra SC wouldn't enable you to retain Silver, without including a flight to LAX which is outside your year end. So flying back to Australia (on a flight which is not yet booked) would net you 105 SC and to LAX 67 SC including the 50% extra SC.
Given it takes 250SC to retain Silver this means currently you only have some 140SC or less now.

It is always worthwhile putting your case to Qantas but if you look at it from Qantas point of view you don't have a very strong case.
You haven't necessarily flown Qantas much this year with only 140 SC, and without the 50% bonus may not have retained Silver even with flight back from LON and to LAX.

Qantas sets rules for requalification in all Status levels. Members need to be aware of the rules, and if they want to requalify need to make sure they get the SC on a timely basis. Unfortunately your case was insufficient for Qantas to make an exception.

With regard to your loyalty, you state you made 5 return flights to Europe in a year. If those flights were on Qantas you would earn 140 SC each return trip, or 700 in a year. Seeing you only made some 140 SC it doesn't seem you have been totally loyal to Qantas.
Whatever airline frequent flyer scheme you choose in future, make sure you get the SC or points within the time limit set.
