AirBerlin: SFO/JFK - DUS nonstop $2700
Was trying to book a last minute flight from SFO to DUS and stumbled upon the below offer. It appears to also work from JFK, but not from LAX.
It does not need to be a direct flight to DUS either, it prices the same with 1 and 2 stop options to other AB destinations in Europe, e.g TXL, MUC, CPH, ARN, FCO etc. It appears that the first stop must be in DUS though.
Here is the link to the direct SFO-DUS option.

If they sell fewer tickets (likely) they will have less time.
If they sell off assets or slots or routes all or some flights could be discontinued sooner.
Just book in a way thay you are protected (credit card etc)

AND they're not refunding existing tickets for anyone worried they might go under before their planned trip. No bueno. Also, $2700 isn't even a good fare! OW and *A airlines have been running various J sales -- including flights less than 48 hours out -- between $1,750-$2,150 for most of the past month ex-NYC as well as ex-WAS.

The actions they've taken will deter future bookings, and they're in the death spiral now. Will only survive if a third party (e.g., LH) steps in to take over as an operating entity. Otherwise it's liquidation.

Not really a mileage run since they apparantly don't credit miles anymore.

$2,700 is a lot to spend on a gamble given the fact that it's not a good deal in the first place.
