Raise fees & blame it on 9/11
Come on guys....its been 8 years, stop using it as a crutch.
Plus they say with reduced passengers they need to raise rates to keep their inspectors. NOT that they could lay them off.
USDA To Raise Airline Inspection Fees
The 9/11 terrorist attacks resulted in a greater need for cargo and agricultural inspection, and USDA that in order to maintain these standards, it will need to raise the fees charged by APHIS.
The fees will rise from the current $5 the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) charges to each international airline passenger to $5.50. Each commercial aircraft will be charged $77.83, up from $70.75. Fees for surface transit inspections also will rise.
The emergency action goes into effect Oct. 1, but USDA will accept comments until Nov. 27.
