Changing planes in Lima

We will be coming in to lima late at night from La Paz (LAN), and need to get our luggage and then re-check in for a LAN/Aeromexico flight to Mexico City.

How easy is it to get around the Lima airport? how much time would you say is the minimum to do this?

Any problems with the above?

Are you on two tickets, or one? Even on 2, LA should be able to check your luggage through, and then you'd merely go through int'l connections, through a quick security check, and then go to the appropriate service counter upstairs in the departures area for your BP.

It will probably be two tickets because the cost of making it one ticket was significantly more. We are getting to La Paz by other transport so it's not a proper round trip.

If they can't check our bags through, is there simply one terminal in Lima? Allowing us to quickly get our bags and recheck in? I've heard rumors that Lan is fairly well run so there shouldn't be too much delay getting our 2nd boarding pass?

Thanks
S

IMO you've got lots of time, even though you're arriving and departing during peak operating hours. The Lima airport is relatively compact and easy to navigate. The LAN checkin counters are located all the way across the terminal from the int'l arrivals area, but it's a short walk. You should have a copy of your e-ticket handy as security personnel will request to see it before you enter the checkin area.

One thing to verify is whether you have to pay the international airport departure fee (US$30 per person) if you clear Immigration & Customs while in transit. I vaguely remember that there was an exemption in this case, but it's something you might want to check out beforehand.
