Any experience with Allegiant Air?

Hi. Has anyone flown Allegiant Air (AllegiantAir) in the past? I know it is open seating or $ for confirmed seat. I will have an upcoming meeting in LAN and was considering flying them from LAS since they have direct flights.

We flew Allegiant Air on a charter flight from San Jose to Laughlin a few weeks ago. We did get assigned seats in an all coach cabin with refurbished comfortable leather seats and reasonable amount of leg room. Aircraft was an old TWA DC-9 (MD-80) but it definitely had a new look to it, inside and out.

The flights were on time and the crew was very friendly and helpful. Snacks were reasonable, but it was a short flight of only a little over an hour. No complaints.

I agree with JerryFF. On four flights to/from LAS, Allegiant Air has always been reliable and friendly. Direct flight availability and affordable fares easily outweigh the few missing "amenities" on a very short flight.

Allegiant has on time issues from what I hear. They charge for all beverages and snacks. They typically offer less than daily service and usually only one flight on any day that it does operate. Those are the negatives.

The positives are nonstop service to/from many smaller cities. Friendly, down to earth staff. They are a smaller airline and have a more personal touch than some of the larger carriers. "Mainline" jet service (MD80's) to cities that typically only recieve RJ service from other airlines. LOW FARES. Allegiant offers unbelievably low fares. I've seen $69 each way LAS-LAN in the past.

They did not charge us for beverages and snacks on the San Jose/Laughlin charter and they were right on time for both flights. I agree we have very limited experience and this is about as small a sample as one can get.

I flew them from Fresno to Las Vegas last year as they had a great last minute fare. All leather seats, friendly staff, beverages and snack were free, at least last year (they gave out bags of carmel corn). The FA's were also selling Vegas coupon books for something like $5.00 which I found interesting.

I don't know what to tell you, you guys. All you need do is refer to their website where it specifically says that they sell soft drinks and snacks:

http://www.allegiantair.com/inflt_svc.htm

Charters are somewhat different as they serve whatever the charter purchaser is willing to pay for. For instance, if a casino is chartering the plane for a junket and asks for breakfast to be served, they will serve breakfast and the casino will pay for that.

AS Flyer is correct. They do charge for drinks and snacks now. They used to be complimentary.

I'm not sure about the comment about on-time performance issues though. My experience has been no problems there.

Flightstats.com has Allegiant's on-time performance in September at 84%.

Thanks for the replies. The schedule of their flights works out well for me; if the days don't change, that won't be a problem. When I first checked out the website, it was $59 + taxes each way; unfortunately the prices have been slowly trending up. If they keep rising, I'll probably go with UAL through ORD to get the miles.

I flew them for the first time this week. Can't beat MRY-SAN rt on an MD80 for $49 all in. (I think UA's weekend e-fare was $140+.) No complaints. Flight experience was good. On time. Yes, they charge for all the extras.

Will be good for positioning the next time a jumbo hits the MR deals forum. ^

I have flown on them once. There were no problems. All flights were on time. The only part that scares me is if you miss your flight. You will have to buy a ticket on a new airline or wait days!

I liked Allegiant Air. It is a great airline if you need to travel from Podunk to LAS or back. It is also a great airline if you need to travel between two different Podunks changing planes at LAS. They serve 30 different Podunks. And sodas and snacks, if you pay for 'em. Don't bother paying extra for seat selection, likely as not you'll get an empty sleeper row.

They don't have an FF program.

We flew G4 round-trip GSP-SFD in Jan of this year, and were very pleasantly surprised. Legroom, even in non-exit row seats, was much better than most any coach cabin I've been in for the last 15 years. You pay for anything to eat or drink, but it's served with professionalism and a bit of humor. No on-time issues either.
