The call center is run by whatever company provides the inventory and they have no idea what the site owner is offering as a kickback - they service all the thousands of sites white labeling their inventory.

You're right, it is tough to find someone to contact. As I mentioned before, if you want to send me a PM or email with information about your reservation, I'm happy to contact them about it, but I don't think it's appropriate to share the founders' email addresses publicly.

It's a very small company, and I think it's unreasonable to expect them to have their own customer service team at this stage. But maybe things could be better. I don't know since I haven't had to use it yet.

I see they are sponsoring the Frequent Traveler University program in Northern VA coming up in April. I suspect they will have some reps there and try to sell their service to us.

The rates seem to be pretty much what you find by booking directly through the hotel's website. I am intrigued but will probably wait to find out more about them.

I asked them if they had ever heard of pointshound.com and they said literally "no, what is that sir?". Called back twice, they had my reservation but could not help. No other customer service number or email address on the web site. What a waste of time.

The points finally posted to UA. No Marriott points or credit for a stay/night. Frustrating it took so long and there was no one to contact.

The only benefit for me is if I'm just looking for a cheap, decent hotel somewhere (mostly internationally) that I otherwise wouldn't get any points/miles for, other than whatever my card gives me. I just booked a hotel room in Buenos Aires for $70, which earned 250 UA miles. Now I'll just have to pray that they post.

Completed a stay 2/22, and somewhere on the website it said to wait 2 weeks for miles to post. Miles posted to United 3/7. Nice to get something when I had to stay at a hotel I wasn't going to earn loyalty points with.

Here's a link for a 250 mile bonus if you sign up AND book a stay.

[Not very good] recent experience

3/2: Booked and paid for 1 night stay
3/3: Checked-out
3/25: Noticed I was double-charged (once by Pointhound, again by Hotel) and replied to original confirmation email seeking assistance in straightening out the issue. (Note: email was "[email protected]")
3/25: Received the following reply:
Hello Henry,

Thank you for contacting Customer Support regarding your double charge under itinerary # 11191000xxxx.

We apologize for the inconvenience. We have reviewed your email, however we are requesting for you to email us back with more information regarding your double billing so that we may better assist you.

Thank you for using our service, we appreciate your business.

Anthony P.
Customer Care Specialist
3/25: I replied, providing the following details from my CC records: Trans Date, Post Date, Type, Description, Amount.
3/28: After no response or acknowledgement, I resent the last email to "[email protected]".

... I have yet to hear back from anyone. Not stellar service at this point.

March 31st LA Times Travel section had a very prominent review of this site by Jen Leo who reviews travel websites every Sunday. She liked it. She also said that if you want AA miles, you should try Rocketmiles.com-"a similar site".

First time bookers get 250 miles regardless.

Saw it on a blog a few days ago,but seems like a lot of work just to book and cancel, pointshound charges you upfront in most cases. Not bad whoever has the ability to use a credit card then cancel most charges.

Definitely. As I mentioned in that post, the trick is finding a refundable "double up" rate, since those are charged by the property and (sometimes? always?) are only charged on checkin/checkout. Definitely YMMV, but both my recent double up reservations (marriott & hilton) have not been pre-charged.

Absolutely agree. I had this same issue recently for a Candlewood Suites stay (Priority Club). The hotel thought I booked through Expedia and I was not awarded any points/stay credit. I contacted PointsHound and they said that the rate I used did not qualify for double-dipping. I asked for an explanation and they basically said while they award miles/points with their partners, they cannot guarantee that the hotel program will do the same. This is blantantly opposite of what their site says. If you value your elite status, I would stay away from PointsHound.
