Better to accumulate on JAL Mileage Bank or AAdvantage?
Hello,
Is it better to accumulate points on JAL Mileage Bank or AAdvantage when flying on JAL?
Do JAL points expire?
What are the Pros and COns of JAL milage bank compared to AAdvantage?
Thanks!

AAdvantage.
JAL miles expires, have minimal bonuses, many tickets dont earn 100% etc.....
unless you want to join JGC.

JAL points are the best points (bar none) if you want to redeem premium emirates tickets because they are distance based.

As long as you want to book a round trip. If you just want a one-way out of the US on EK, then AS is a better choice.

It is no comparison. JAL you can get nyc-milan in emirates first class for 100k RT. using alaska miles on Emirates it costs 100k
ONE WAY
nyc to dubai costs 90k one way in first using alaska. its only 135k in emirates first class using JAL points RT

But JL is not a AS partner http://www.alaskaair.com/content/mil...-overview.aspx
Also, JL adds fuel surcharges to EK redemptions, while AS does not.
Whether one mile in JMB equals one mile in AS's Mileage Plan is a subjective determination, so simply comparing them is not terribly informative. That being said, even assuming they are equivalent, there are times when JL is the better deal, and times when it is not (e.g. LAX-DXB or LAX-DXB-Asia).
This is all irrelevant if the OP has no plans to redeem on EK.

Sorry, my comment was regarding EK redemptions.
Redemptions with JL must be round trip. There are ways to get around this, but in general simple one-ways are not allowed. Some people (including myself) feel this is a disadvantage.

The only restriction is that the origin and return needs to be in the same country. It does not have to be a RT in the traditional sense. You can start journey in NYC and return to LAX.

[Moderator hat on]

Unfortunately, since November 10, 2013, this is incorrect (http://milevalue.com/best-program-re...#comment-60076).
And with that I will continue any further discussion in the JAL forum.
