Welcome to Flyertalk lilgrub.

As others have pointed out, we have a dedicated forum to all things down under.

We're relocating your query to this forum.

I stayed the following:
-Kangaroo Valley
-Mallacoota
-Lakes Entrance
-Philip Island

There are several websites with troves of information about the routes and itineraries possible between Sydney and Melbourne. I would suggest googling "Sydney to Melbourne Self Drive Tour."

Melbourne to Sydney is a huge drive. What reason are you driving? Might help make a decision about where to stay along the way.

Welcome to FT lilgrub.

It makes it difficult to recommend anything without some specifics.

What is your budget?
Are you planning to get from MEL to SYD as fast as possible, or take a more scenic coastal path?

Perhaps let us know what you have already come up with and we can then assist.

My friend was born in Wagga Wagga and at LAX immigration the staff gathered around her and asked her to say it..."waaaaga waaaga". The Aussie accent amused the American custom dudes!

Great places is a bit hard to define without more information, like price range. If you want a luxury stay, One and Only Wolgan Valley is in the Blue Mountains and great.

Doubt the OP will be back to see this, but for anyone finding this in the future, I'm booked at an Airbnb called "The Beach Retreat" in Eden next month. We're doing the Princes Highway down from Sydney and that seemed to be the best option in terms of overall cost and value. The Seahorse Inn in Eden also looked promising, but the room types available when we wanted to stay did not work.
