Consolidated "Sushi in New York City" thread

Go Sushi
756 Ninth Avenue
New York, NY 10019
Hours: 11:30 a.m. - Midnight
Tel: (212) 459-2288

Had the Go Sushi Lunch Box from Go Sushi today - very good! - and a cup of miso soup.

The $1.25 hot miso soup was not too salty, with miso in a broth with sliced scallions, mushrooms and tofu.

The $5.95 Lunch Box consisted of a side salad (tomato slice, diced iceberg lettuce, dressing), soba noodles garnished with toasted sesame seeds, 4 California sushi rolls, a piece of salmon sushi and a piece of tuna sushi, accompanied with perserved ginger slices, wasabi and soy sauce.

Everything was fresh and filling. Especially liked the soba noodles.

The restaurant sits on the southeast corner of 9th Avenue and 51st Street. The restaurant has floor to ceiling plate glass windows, Japanese style furnishings, sushi bar in back - all very minimalist.

I'm always amazed at how the miso varies between establishments.

I have never had mushrooms in miso. But have had nothing but the miso soup, to chopped scallions, seaweed/no seaweed, cubes of tofu or no tofu etc. etc.

all one can eat sushi in Manhattan

hello,

as disturbing to many as it may sound, I am curious if you all know of all you can eat sushi places (strictly Japanese, no hybrids like Szechuan Sushi) in Manhattan. this would greatly help b/c I have a friend in town who is looking for this type of restaurant, and we will also go to Mitsuwa Marketplace in New Jersey. thanks

I believe Funayama in Greenwich Village has all-you-can-eat Sushi a couple of times a week. The sushi is very good. The chef came from Yama.

I haven't been in years, so I don't know if it's still there, but I used to go to an all-you-can-eat sushi place on the east side of 5th Avenue in the low- to mid-30s. At the time (about 10 years ago), they charged $19.95 and the quality was very good.

I would also like to recommend Minado. It was $24.95 per person if I recall correctly and they also have a huge selection of hot food as well as the sushi.

Minado is not the place I was referring to. The place I used to go to was directly on 5th and was not a buffet; all sushi was made to order.

I have, however, been to one of the other Minado locations. It definitely is worth a try. And even though it is a buffet, the turn over at the location I went to was sufficient to keep the selection fresh.

Here's a link (free registration may be required):

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/31/ny...y/31sushi.html

The article focuses on the upper east side and only mentions two places: Yuka, at 81st Street and 2nd Avenue, and Eastern Sushi, on 2nd Avenue between 72nd and 73rd Streets.

Slightly off topic, but do any of you know if there are any kaiten sushi (conveyor belt) restaurants in NYC? If yes, can you recommend a good one?

The only one I have come across was called Genki Sushi at 9 E46th St. I think it has a new name now but still same set-up. I was there recently so it is definitely still in operation. The sushi is good.
The old phone # was 212-983-5018 and i think it is still number even though the name of the place has changed
