YesterdayI was planning to just stop in New York City and spend a few days there, but is there anything else along the way that would be worth seeing?

Depends on which route you take. If you are into Gambling, the casinos in Connecticut may be worth a visit. If you are into things military related, the Groton Sub base can be cool, as well as Mystic Seaport for the family fun thing. There's also an aquarium in Mystic, the mansions in Newport, and some nice beaches in Rhode Island.
If you take the inland route there's Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts.

Lake Compounce Amusement Park in Bristol CT is the nations oldest amusement park. A few decent coasters.

Old State House in Hartford (oldest of the original Capitals)
This would mean a trip through the center of CT instead of the shore.

No, just some creative routing. It would be quite easy to drive down to Newport, then pick up 1A across to Mystic and Groton, then swing NW on 85 and 2 to Hartford, then on to Bristol, then down to Danbury and into NYC. Actually, this would be a very scenic tour.Originally Posted by FLgrr

Mystic Aquarium now has a Titanic exhibit that was prepared in conjunction with Dr. Ballard that is supposed to be excellent.

Personally, I'd stop at Newport, RI if your schedule allows. Providence is also a great place to stop several good restaurants there as well.

FWIW, the coastal route (Interstate 95 through Connecticut) is significantly worse to drive than driving west through Mass. and Hartford.
When I was a kid I loved visiting Sturbridge Village. There's also the basketball Hall of Fame is in Springfield (and the volleyball hall of fame in Holyoke
).

Having lived in New Haven for quite some time, both the city and the university are worth the visit. Don't forget the incredible New Haven apizza, which you won't find outside of about a five-mile radius of New Haven. Moreover, there's Louis Lunch, the restaurant where the hamburger was invented.
Getting there from Boston is a quick ride on either Megabus ($1 tickets are quite easy to get about a month or so out) or Peter Pan/Greyhound ($15 I think). Both arrive at New Haven's historic Union Station, from which there are free shuttles downtown.
Also, I'm surprised no one has mentioned CT's casinos: Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods. They're both a bus ride away from New Haven.
