[Off-topic text edited by Moderator.]

Every rental car, for every day in BOS starting in May is at least $70 a day.

I've never seen this before nor is it like this in any other city.

Thoughts?

Apologize to Mod's if you need to move this.

At LAX there is a $10 fee for a facility they hope to build in the future. I think SFO has a fee for their common facility serviced by the BART

Not that hard to figure out. May is end of the school year and graduation. Boston is the #1 city with number of colleges/universities, etc. at 58.

BOS does have a decent collection of surcharges, much like other airport rental car locations. They include:
  • Concession Recovery Fee (11.11%)
  • Convention Center Surcharge 10.00/rental
  • Customer Facility Charge 6.00/day
  • Energy Recovery Fee 0.79/day
  • Parking Tax 0.60/rental
  • Reimbursement Charge (5.9%)
A $42 rental car will cost $70 when all is said and done.

Nothing to do with UA or May, but that's a different story.

I do find car rentals expensive in Boston. One thing I have done is to do a one-way rental from Downtown Boston to Logan. It costs about $20 for a taxi to downtown Boston, but is just as convenient as taking the shuttle bus to the consolidated rental facility. You can save quite a bit by doing it this way.

With some thread title, and post editing, this is a perfect thread for the travel forum focused on New England. I'll move it there. Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator, United forum.

I have ridden the free Silver Line bus from Logan to South Station, jumped on the T to Government Center, and hit the Avis desk there (opposite City Hall) to save a lot of money.

The city Hertz location is at 30 Park Plaza, an easy walk from the Boylston or Arlington Green Line stops.

If you go to 30 Park Street instead of 30 Park Plaza, you're not gonna find it.

It's $70 per day BEFORE taxes. The rates are for May, June, July......

I've been flying to BOS 10 times a year for 20 years and have never seen this.

Only someone one using OPM would rent a car at a major city airport to just go into said city. Parking in BOS, NYC, CHI.... cost more than the car each day!

Problem with BOS is if your destination is more than 10 miles from the airport. Mass transit is out.

A trick I just found: Hertz local edition gives the best rates if you book from noon on Thursday to noon Monday. No one, not Avis or Enterprise, comes close to HLE weekend rates.

I booked from 10 July to 14 July for $137 !

Is this the same reason there is very little hotel availability (Hyatt/SPG) in Boston the weekend of 5/17?

The weekend before Memorial Day is always busy in Boston. Tufts and BU commencement on Sunday, BC on Monday. very likely that some of the smaller schools could also have stuff going on.
