Shift-supervisor to his empty-handed charges at the x-ray:
"If you guys don't have anything to do, just start pulling bags and checking 'em!"

Me to security guard during bag-rifling following x-ray:
"Do you happen to know whatever it is you're looking for, where it might be? I might be able to pull it out for you..."
"No."
"Uhh... so... maybe you might know... what it is that you're looking for?"
"Nope. But Irene said there's something dark on the X-ray."
******
I think pantomime can be quite entertaining. But not when the show is keeping me from a 15-minute connection when I've already been in line for 30 minutes. And certainly not when you know the "dumb" factor is not just theatre.

Perhaps Irene had been x-raying Wonder Boy's melon earlier?

Actually this seems to be very common. Xray attendant yells to next person. Check that bag, I think I saw something. Then the person starts digging around. Moving your wires, cables, batteries, etc all around then finally saying go ahead.
