Changes to AAdvange Loyalty Ranking in 2017?

I heard that AA may be changing how they rank you within each tier (for upgrade lists, etc.) in 2017:
Current: Tier (EXP,PLAT,GLD), plus when upgrade was requested
2017?: Tier (EXP,PLAT,GLD), plus miles flown YTD

Is there any truth to this? (I heard it from an AA booking agent)
