Hotel/Air Points/Miles count after cancelling credit card?

Hotel/Air Points/Miles count after cancelling credit card?
Am going to cancel couple hotel/airline credit cards. Just wondering if I make a last minute charge (say adding $1 via amazon.com) before cancelling my credit card in order to extend my miles/points expiration date would it count on my hotel/airline program? I would auto pay for the charge the following month after the credit card already been closed. thanks.

The charge would need to post before you cancel the card. IME, once you cancel, you immediately lose out on all potential earning, including all miles/points that have not yet posted.
