Improvements coming to the shorthaul fleet!

Improvements coming to the shorthaul fleet (link)

Our new European cabin offers the ultimate comfort on intra-Europe trips and has won us several acclaimed awards. Passionately called NEK by those in-the-know, the new seating lets you savour every minute of your flight, whether working, relaxing or enjoying the onboard meal. We are continuing to improve our shorthaul offering, taking regular feedback from our best customers and implementing their wishes, so that our intra-Europe offering would remain the very best in the industry in the years ahead.

Even softer seats

Most passengers jump for joy after a flight in the NEK cabin, but occasionally, there are complaints. The most frequent customer complaint about NEK is about... the seat being too soft. In fact, when pushing really hard against the backrest, some passengers may feel the hard seatback through the wonderfully soft cushion. So just one year after the introduction of NEK, we will be doing another revolutionary improvement of our intra-Europe seating. We will remove the hard seatbacks altogether, leaving just the soft fabric. Flying inside Europe will be as comfortable as lying in a hammock in your garden!

New advanced seatblocking

With more legroom, NEK truly defined the new standard in personal space for every passenger. And this is reflected in the feedback we receive from our frequent flyers. Our Senator members have enjoyed seatblocking for a long time - whenever possible, the seat next to a Senator remains empty. With the new personal space concept of NEK, more and more Senators are telling us that they no longer need this empty seat. Instead, they are asking us to keep the seat behind them empty, to enjoy the generous recline without inconveniencing the person in the next row.

Lufthansa is listening, and so we made enhancements to our seatblocking algorithm. Senators will now get a free seat behind them instead of next to them, when possible. And our valued HON Circle members will have free seats both next to them and behind them when available. For your convenience, a fuel and security surcharge will be collected for these blocked seats.

Great wine offering

With the introduction of NEK, we dramatically improved our food offering on European routes. We are happy to announce a wider selection of wines onboard as well, brought to you in cooperation with our new partner Tetrapak®. Stay tuned!

A closet at every seat

We eliminated onboard closets on our European fleet after our customer surveys showed that 90% of passengers didn't use them and would rather have an extra row of seats. Nevertheless, a few Business Class passengers told us they preferred to hang their coats in the closet rather than put them into the overhead bin.

Our passenger comfort task force didn't stop at 20th century-style closets, but found an even more elegant solution. In Business Class, we will add two coat hangers over every vacant middle seat - making it your own private closet.

Seatmate of Choice®

Being the industry leader means constantly pushing the envelope of superior customer service and turning even the wildest dreams into reality. We are happy to announce an industry first for our valued HON Circle members: the Seatmate of Choice®. Just tell us the preferred sex, age and hair color of your seat neighbor - and our gate staff will identify the closest match among the passengers on your flight and give them a seat assignment next to you. Always flying next to attractive people - the dream of millions is now a reality for our best customers.

Herzlich Willkommen onboard our European fleet!

Enhanced Seat Blocking: From now on you get a guaranteed travel companion next to you.

Because we want to encourage you to buy a Business Class Ticket, we will guarantee a next neigbour to you on every flight of our spacious NEK cabin. This will help you to argue that you will desperatly need to upgrade to our value for money Business Class.

A similar scheme was actually discussed by LH M&M end-1990s for SENs (incl. voluntary enrolment).

Good one !!! I was shocked regarding the seatblocking, though, as I was too jetlagged to realize todays date.

You don't need any status to take part on Air New Zealand.
