Just checked my email. Booked on Orbitz and the email says "Your ticket is not yet confirmed. We are confirming it with the airline and will update your itenarary online within 24 hours. "
Anybody else with similar experience?

Since this may be dead, is it acceptable call to see if i could modify my second flight? I made a huge mistake and booked a later flight than my companion (10 hours later) because we are returning on different dates. Really hoping they wouldnt mind putting me on the earlier flight with her.

That's the standard orbitz email when you make a reservation.
Doesn't mean it will work though

I would wait a few hours and let other people's ticket confirm and then let us know what they say, I am going to say they won't change the flt

Last year with the $284 JFK-MNL, it booked immediately. W/out being dogmatic think odds are in favor or against? 50/50?

It is definitely dead, a little extra heft now exists in the filed fares.

I booked through Orbitz for MIA- FCO in May at got a confirmed ticket # 10 mins after booking. Was able to pick seats via Orbitz and also log into TAP with no issue. So I'd say you still have a good chance.
