Flight Changes
Many changes have been made due to Etihad schedule changes. In some cases, connecting flights are being swapped to nonstops. Some have been able to get this changed back by calling Etihad, others have not. You may have to repeat call / HUCA to get it switched back.

Update 12/28/14: Etihad will honor the fare per Forbes article.

Suggestions for what to do in ...

AUH (Abu Dhabi) (Check Groupon):
Grand Mosque [wiki] [map]
Kayak the mangroves [trip advisor] [map]
Ferrari World [trip advisor] [map]
Dune bashing/camel ride [trip advisor]

Hotels:
Qsar al Sarab

CPT (Capetown):
Take cable car to top of Table Mountain
Drive the scenic drive to Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope
See Robben Island prison, home to Nelson Mandela for 18 years
V&A Waterfront
Hop-on-Hop Off Bus Cape town (brings you to all scenic landscapes of Cape town (incl Camps bay) w/o hassle and security concerns

JNB (Johannesburg):
Nelson Mandela Square (JNB) / also visit Butchers steak restaurant there
Guided tour to Soweto (JNB)

For JNB/CPT:
- use uber (safe and cheap) / if you travel to Sandton(JNB): use Gautrain from Airport. / review travel advise and do's/don'ts for traveling in JNB city.
- Tons of cheap flights btw CPT and JNB. Always use booking portals like orbitz, skyscanner, etc. to find good fares (for example on Kulula, BA, SAA, Mango, etc.)

MNL (Manila):
Ask on FT (in Destinations) - There are too many islands and beaches in the Philippines to list here.
If you fancy another destination:
$120 R/T to SIN
$175 R/T to HKG or 7500 Avios
Almost all of Asia is under $200 with LCCs

I booked with a MAN connection on the outbound and CDG back. Any idea on EY Y vs AA Y?

AA might have additional width since it seems like it's 8 abreast instead of 9.

I'll routinely do it on HNL flights from ATL or anywhere east of the Mississippi if the overland flight is upgrade-eligible. HNL flights in the back from the east side of the country can really be awful, as they're long, often totally full, cramped and have domestic service standards but international rules for upgrading (worst of both worlds). Even if the upgrade on the overland flight doesn't come through, you get to break the trip and the overwater segment from the western city *might* not be totally full.

Three words -- Main Cabin Extra!

(that, and the fact that my one-stop in MAN should earn miles on both segments, while the nonstop to AUH doesn't).

Anybody going to India got their flight date changed. Mine went from May 19 to may 20 and rt from June 6 to June 7. I had booked connecting flights in India and they are non-refundable and now I dont know what to do...

My email came from etihad directly and not orbitz. When I checked my booking on etihad.com, everything has been changed, my seats, my meal preferences...

Thank you for choosing to travel with Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates.

Please note that the details for one or more flights within your booking have been updated. The revisions are included below, with an updated itinerary where appropriate:

For 15K RDM (worth $200+) difference, I don't want a nonstop.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and look forward to welcoming you on board. To contact our contact centre, please telephone 02 599 0000 from within the UAE or +971 2 599 0000 from outside the UAE. Alternatively, the contact details of your nearest Etihad Airways office are available here.
Call them up, explain that the one-day schedule change doesn't work for you, and ask if they can put you on the May 19 EY flight from ORD or IAD instead (along with an AA connecting flight from DFW). Due to the 'uniqueness' of this fare, I'm not sure how accommodating they will be, but it's worth a try!

I tried, they said they cannot. If they have to change the dates and use a partner flight the fares would change to whatever is the current fare....

To Whom It May Concern:
On XX/XX/XXXX, I purchased a ticket from XXX to XXX with the following routing XXX – XXX – XXX – XXX on Site XXX (Retailer name). On XX/XX/XXXX, I received a confirmation with ticket number XXX and confirmation code XXX for transport on Airlines XXX and XXX on my itinerary.
On XX/XX/XXXX, I received an email from XXX informing that my flight was changed to a different routing. I was told to accept this routing or pay a higher fee.
As this constitutes a post-purchase increase per DOT 399.88, and the tickets originates in the US, I would like to file a complaint against XXX, YYY and ZZZ.
I am requesting that the Airline XXX reinstate my ticket as originally booked and paid for on XX/XX/XXXX.

Sincerely,
XYZ
Here's all the details for those that are included to learn more...
Does the prohibition on post-purchase price increases in section 399.88(a) apply in the situation where a carrier mistakenly offers an airfare due to a computer problem or human error and a consumer purchases the ticket at that fare before the carrier is able to fix the mistake?
Section 399.88(a) states that it is an unfair and deceptive practice for any seller of scheduled air transportation within, to, or from the United States, or of a tour or tour component that includes scheduled air transportation within, to, or from the United States, to increase the price of that air transportation to a consumer after the air transportation has been purchased by the consumer, except in the case of a government-imposed tax or fee and only if the passenger is advised of a possible increase before purchasing a ticket. A purchase occurs when the full amount agreed upon has been paid by the consumer. Therefore, if a consumer purchases a fare and that consumer receives confirmation (such as a confirmation email and/or the purchase appears on their credit card statement or online account summary) of their purchase, then the seller of air transportation cannot increase the price of that air transportation to that consumer, even when the fare is a “mistake.”
A contract of carriage provision that reserves the right to cancel such ticketed purchases or reserves the right to raise the fare cannot legalize the practice described above. The Enforcement Office would consider any contract of carriage provision that attempts to relieve a carrier of the prohibition against post-purchase price increase to be an unfair and deceptive practice in violation of 49 U.S.C. § 41712.

I checked and they dont have the route available on my original booking dates. If they are able to change it back to the original dates by changing the route can I request a new boarding point. Instead of flying out of DFW I would like to fly out of MSY/BTR, can I ask that or does that go out of the provisions of the statute?

In the same boat as Tornadog: originally had DFW-AUH-DFW booked 10/22-10/29 (Thursdays) but got a notification from EY and from Expedia that dates got changed to 10/23-10/30 (Fridays).

From looking at ExpertFlyer, looks like DFW-AUH has been reduced from Daily to Sun/Wed/Fri.

In my case, I had booked IAH-DFW-IAH positioning flights on AA using BA Avios and, fortunately, was able to rebook for new dates so I'm only out a $11-12 due to cancelling original tickets. However, I had to re-submit all of my Best Rate Guarantee claims to Hyatt and have to hope they approve them again.

Anyway, insofar as Tornadog is concerned, EY has accommodate him on a nonstop routing (e.g. DFW-ORD-AUH) on the same dates, right? I don't think DOT views cancelling flights as a valid excuse or do they?
