MR: SFO UA: 12/15 - sfo/ord/lhr/zrh - 934 a/i
Need 4k miles to keep 100k on United before year end; based in SFO; OAK/SJC are ok to fly out of. Most weekdays w/ no overnight are fine as are weekends.
The above mileage run was the best I could find; it works out to about 7/c mile; which isn't great and about 8k more miles than I need; but at least the destination would be intersting and I'd get to fly back on SWISS.
I'd like to find something cheaper that doesn't burn up 2 days.
Any recommendations from the FT community?

Thanks for the search. I also found a similar fare UA $490: sfo/iah/mia/den/sfo on the 16th; so not too much more and I get better seat selection and I get to do it on a Sunday (publishing so others might take adv if they want)
But given the cost of 8.3 c/m, this isn't winning me any bragging rights. Given that this would be first MR I also want some street cred...any thoughts on how to drive that number down (either by increasing # of miles or dropping the $)
Appreciate your help in advance.

You are right; I just booked the sfo/iah/mia/den/sfo far on United; they matched US @$470; so I'm happy I saved $20 bucks and that'll pay for the MIA lunch(cuban sandwich mabye?)...thanks to clacko for turning me on the route/fare and westy for making sure I don't suffer on a longer set of flights i dont need to take to get the 1K status for the year.

For the benefit of others, should they ask for similar tickets, could you please post your routing and dates? I saw some new inventory open up on Tues/Weds of next week for $320 SFO-EWR-SFO on US, but nothing as cheap as you found which didn't require a hotel stay in NY.

Was reading this thread and was feeling very happy that AeroWesty gave some advice on a MR when it was still decent $$: SFO-CLT-FLL. Happy to have it all booked up and glad the OP got his too.

I see the fares changed though, but you can still do it ~$370 with a 12hr layover which you don't have to get a hotel for. Just go get some pizza
