UA: TPE-SFO/LAX/SEA US$665 all-in 3 days min

Rarely TPE has some great economy class fares, but UA has three of them now - great for FTers based in and around TPE. Bookable with UA in TPE and most TAs and search engines in Taiwan.

TPE-SFO-LAX/SEA (have to use UA872 TPE-SFO and UA871 SFO-TPE for these fares) and TPE-NRT-HNL (all travel done before Mar 29 as UA stops TPE-NRT):

S class NT$21200/US$665 all-in Sun-Thur departures; extra NT$1000/US$32 Fri-Sat. UAL.bomb prices it at US$718 and Expedia US$728

W class NT$28200/US$882 all-in Sun-Thur; extra NT$1000/US$32 Fri-Sat.
Not available for TPE-NRT-HNL

Min Stay: 3 days
Max Stay: 30 days
Ticketed by Mar 24
Valid for departures between Feb 8 - Mar 31
US$75 per date change
One stopover (SFO) allowed

UA sale also covers TPE-East Coast and some West Coast cities, but based on Price Per Mile (PPM), SEA and LAX are the best deals.

The "Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan special," which you reference, has ended. I was able to book LAX-TPE for $500.55 all-in after applying a discount code. The fare was discussed here.

Results from ITA...
2-3 night stay

TPE-SFO W: 870-ish (Thursdays)
TPE-LAX W: 870-ish (Sunday and some Monday departures)

Reverse:
LAX-TPE W: 1340-ish
SFO-TPE W: 1320-ish

Seems you must start out from TPE...
Also, if you go to tw.united.com, the website will not even let you search for a ticket. Must have tracked your IP and if your IP is non-Taiwanese, such function is blocked???

It is when I search, though only one way. I see several convoluted routings, especially if you add OAK and SJC to the mix.

I also booked the expired special from SFO. Great time to spend my leap day later this month.

.bomb of Taiwan doesn't have such a function to block IP. The tickets are usaully sold by the travel agents in Taiwan. If you buy from a agent, you can get such a good fare.

The fare from NYC to TPE is around 750 all in...
If you use 10% off code, you can get a fare around 705 all in..
you can book this on .bomb

I booked a flight from NYC to TPE few days ago with my 10% off code and the fare was 675 all in.

Thanks milehighclubnz! I have booked my trip back to the USA.

Explore

PS I found Cebu Pacific was the significantly cheaper than the alternatives in getting to TPE. (No Mileage )

I got SFO-HKG on UA (SFO-ORD-HKG-LAX-SFO) for $714 all-in from 3/24-4/1 on StudentUniverse (also offered on STA Travel). You've got to be a student, but it's still a good deal.

17,400 EQM http://flyerstats.com/itineraries/24...RD-HKG-LAX-SFO

Maybe someone can find a better routing.

(Actually, the day I got it, StudentUniverse had a $100 off to Hong Kong sale, so it was $624.)

This might be of interest to you. I read this from StudentUniverse re: earning FF

Can I earn frequent flyer miles with a StudentUniverse ticket?

Some airlines permit accrual of frequent flyer points/miles for student tickets, and others do not. Please see the chart below to see if your flight is eligible for these rewards.

Airline Eligible for Frequent Flyer Mileage? Phone Number

Air Europa NO 888-238-7672
Air France YES 800-237-2747
Air India YES 800-223-7776
Air New Zealand NO 800-262-1234
Air Pacific NO 800-227-4446
Alitalia YES 800-223-5730
American Airlines YES* 800-433-7300
Austrian Airlines NO 800-843-0002
bmi NO 800-788-0555
British Airways NO 800-247-9297
Continental Airlines YES 800-525-0280

US Airways YES* 800-428-4322
Varig YES 800-468-2744
Virgin Atlantic Airways NO 800-862-8621

*Domestic only
**up to 250 miles per segment
***70% of actual miles flown
****For Delta SkyMiles

The above table is for informational purposes only. While we will make every attempt to keep this information up to date, StudentUniverse will not assume any responsibility for its accuracy as airlines reserve the right to make changes to their frequent flyer program without advance notice. Actual mileage earned may be different from what is stated above.

If your flight is eligible to receive frequent flyer rewards, you can make sure you get proper credit in one of two ways. When you check in at the gate, make sure you give the airline agent your frequent flyer information, or you can call the airline directly to make sure they have your frequent flyer information on your flight record. See the chart above for the best number to call.

I saw it said that, so I did some research on FT. Everybody says that they do earn mileage, and not a single person said they didn't earn mileage on a StudentUniverse ticket. It's booked in a standard booking class, too. Also, I've always earned miles on my STA Travel tickets, and STA Travel was selling this for the same fare. So it appears that the table of mileage earning that StudentUniverse provides is a bit too conservative (i.e., wrong).
