MU: YVR to PEK $528 at 3.29 CPM (To Capitalize on Delta's SkyMiles & MQM Bonuses)

We have been finding a lot of China Eastern Mileage Runs in the last 24 hours, since Delta announced their Bonus SkyMiles and MQM's for flying their partner (which Delta has recently bought an interest in)

The best Bonuses (up to 200%) for SkyMiles and Medallion Qualification Miles (MQM's) are for Business / First Class fares...but still some of the economy flights can be good for MQM accumulations.

One such flight we found is:

YVR-PVG-KMG-PEK-KMG-OVG-YVR

$528

This books into T and B fare classes.

T only earns .5 SkyMiles (per mile flown, not based on fare price) and 1 MQM per mile flown

B Earns 1 SkyMile (per mile flown, not based on fare price) and 1 MQM per mile flown

Here is our segment breakdown:

Segment Miles Fare Base RDM's MQM's
YVR - PEK 5,291 T 5,291 2,646 5,291
PEK - KMG 1,300 T 1,300 650 1,300
KMG - PEK 1,300 B 1,300 1,300 1,300
PEK - KMG 1,300 B 1,300 1,300 1,300
KMG - PVG 1,223 T 1,223 612 1,223
PVG - YVR 5,615 T 5,615 2,808 5,615

Fare: $527.60
RDM 9,315
MQM 16,029
Cost 3.29 CPM/MQM
Cost 5.66 CPM/RDM

We have several more...I am just sharing one of our Economy Finds....

Wide-Open dates (4 night layover) in March/April

One Night Layovers Start around $599

I've been told MU was one of the worst experience amongst Skyteam.

I am not advocating for or against; we are just sharing the Mileage Run opportunities. We can only hope that Delta's investment will get us a better experience...I have read accounts going both ways. The ugliest involved repeated multi-hour delays on successive flights.

Just a Mileage Run opportunity..and miles-based; not fare-based for RDM's

Used to fly MU regularly when living in Shanghai and it's just an average airline. While the premium cabins can be a bit lacking, as overall package, it's no worse than DL/UA/AA. Meals/drinks are still complimentary in all classes and cabin crew are usually friendly and accommodating.

However, like any airline operating in China (be it foreign or domestic), flights are likely to be delayed due to weather, military activity, heavy congestion or any combination of the three. While in some cases, delays may be MU's fault, a lot of the time, you're in the same boat as everyone else in the terminal...
