Thanks, xolin, that looks nice.

I'll give these free walking tours a try, too, look like good reviews. I've had good luck with similar ones in the past.

Ran across a little article about free stuff to do around Cape a town, too, if anyone else got in on the deal.

Checked with my friend i did the run with and he thinks we paid closer to 100-120 each for it, so either they raised the prices or we had a special or something. Either way, I recommend getting to Robyn Island, the Cape, and to the penguins, by whatever means you choose

I just booked 2 tickets ORD-MSP-AMS-CPT-AMS-ORD for $916 each. Not as good of a deal but I've been to CPT before and really enjoyed the experience. I may still cancel depending on the GF's ability to get the time off in November.

Robben Island info / hotel info

Those that have been to CPT before will agree that the trip to Robben Island is def worthwhile. If you have not been, be advised that the island is in the ocean, not in a bay (like Alcatraz). Depending on the weather, the ferry ride can be rather rough. If you suffer from motion sickness (like me) you should take appropriate medication or use a patch.

CPT is an amazing city and I have never felt insecure (unlike some areas of JNB). Just use reasonable precautions that you would anywhere.

I have stayed in a couple of places, but on my last visit I booked at the Holiday Inn Express on the pedestrian mall in the center of town using IHG points for some nights and $$ for others. It was easily the nicest HI Express I have ever been to and it was dirt cheap (less than $100 or 15,000 pts per night - breakfast included). I tipped the valet 5 Rand ($.50) and he was ecstatic.

Safe travels to all that got in on the deal. ^

Aww yeah! I stay in IHG hotels pretty much every where (about 100 nights/year) so That is the hotel I was looking at staying at.

The HI in Sandton is by far the nicest HI I have ever stayed in.
