Can't confirm. Didn't book as it's not compatible with DL e-credit (DBC) that I need to spend.

Edit: Flying this route in coach is more expensive, so surely error fare.

Edit 2: Can be booked!

I've recently done 3 hours on KQ's Embraer 190 and it was alright! Personal IFE (albeit stripped down program selection compared to their 777 on the same day) and much better catering & service in Y than I've seen anywhere in Europe.

Matrix has no problems pricing AMS-JNB roundtrip with both long legs in Z.

Personal point of interest: Is it possible on ITA to select bc=z only for one of the flights and not the whole outbound or return?

Yeah, that's what I found as well. But just by chance having both in Z.

How do I make ITA search for just NBO-CDG for Z and other in T/K? AMS :: CDG NBO / f bc=z; only shows business throughout the flight.

Try using the actual fare basis (/f KQ.AMS+JNB.farebasis) instead of booking class restrictions.

I can replicate on ITA but can't find anywhere that it would book, even using our inhouse booking tool which often pulls up pretty obscure stuff w mixed classes.
It may be an ITA glitch returning Z for that segment on this T fare. I read the rules and dont see anything in there on first class that would indicate why the fare as filed would do this.
Fare 1: Carrier KQ THRDNL AMS to JNB (rules)
Passenger type ADT, round trip fare, booking code T, Z
Covers AMS-CDG (Economy), CDG-NBO (Business), NBO-JNB (Economy)

I was referring to both outbound and return in business, the OP's screeshot only shows outbound in business. Turns out (per Temedar) return in business costs €690.

Thanks for the fare basis idea, I have not used it before. ^
