great deal. is this $664 fare a response to UA's $808 fare?

wish ua matched that $664.

ua is 808 nyc-sfo-pek. 17,000 ~4.75 cents lots of dates in sept and after. there is a minium stay required and need visa too tho.

Grabbed two of these. Possible to get it to $659 @ 15470 miles for 4.25cpm w/various connections.

With a less-than-48-hour layover, would that qualify for the 72-hour visa-free transit window? Or is that only for continuing on to a third country?

Since all DL flights are from US -> PEK, it would not qualify.

Too bad this deal isn't to Shanghai. If it was Shanghai, doing a US -> NRT -> PVG routing would qualify it for the 72 hour transit without visa.

I got it

Thank you for this great find. I will travel outbound on Oct 1, 2014, from DCA to PEK via ATL and SEA. My return will be four days later via the same routing.

You can always make a quick trip to Tokyo, Taipei, or Hong Kong in the middle of your Beijing stay.

Can you do that? Just wondering what other people's experiences on this being successful to say Hong Kong. So if I did the below:

total trip time of 7 days

SFO-SEA-PEK (72 hours)
PEK-HKG (48 hours)
HKG-PEK (72 hours)

PEK-SEA-SFO (return)

This above would be ok without a visa?

The thinking is book the main fare and then find some low cost local carrier to get me to Hong Kong.

Done something similar to that. It's fine.

Bring printed documentation, though more recently just showing my TripIt app on my phone has worked just as good.

Though I have found a flight out of PEK is more expensive than the visa.

The problem is that the return ticket you might have to provide when you'll ask for your visa-free on arrival is the SEA-PEK-SEA one...

I believe that Taipei and HKG do not qualify as third country by China for the visa waiver purpose. They are considered Chinese.

No. HKG, Macau, Taipei counts for the 72 hour transit without visa.
