No way. It's too far to be able to go there and back in one day.

You can theoretically do it with no hotel by going out one day, flying back on the red eye to SEA/DEN/IAH, and arriving back at LGA middle of the next day.

Um. That's not true. You can do it in a day with redeye returns.

Indeed, did it a couple of times last year. Not bad at all. And the view flying into and out of ANC is just wonderful.

Please illustrate, with an example, how you can fly LGA-ANC-LGA on UA with all flights departing on the same day.

I see. Sorry, I jumped the gun in assumptions. Left NYC early, got to ANC about 4:30; left about 8:00, but did arrive back early the next day. That way, depending on the time of year, good viewing coming and going over the Mountains into Anchorage.
I read it as just not staying overnight in ANC. Really a pity, though, to miss ANC.

I did it last may. LGA-IAH-ANC-IAH-LGA. With ANC-IAH being a redeye, and IAH-LGA leaving first thing in the morning technically next day. I still consider it a same day turn, but basically am asking if an overnight is required.

There ya go. In MR speak, I think the concern of "same day" refers to not requiring a hotel overnight. A continuous flight itinerary is "same day."
