I see. Sorry, I jumped the gun in assumptions. Left NYC early, got to ANC about 4:30; left about 8:00, but did arrive back early the next day. That way, depending on the time of year, good viewing coming and going over the Mountains into Anchorage.
I read it as just not staying overnight in ANC. Really a pity, though, to miss ANC.

I did it last may. LGA-IAH-ANC-IAH-LGA. With ANC-IAH being a redeye, and IAH-LGA leaving first thing in the morning technically next day. I still consider it a same day turn, but basically am asking if an overnight is required.
