I've got an even hotter routing...
PEK > YYZ > YUL...
... only $18,60
... and 32500 miles.
P.S. FWIW, I saw prices around $450 ow, ai from PEK to YUL on AC for July - Aug. Not sure why anyone would want to go on that OP's original routing.

I did an MR on AA to Shanghai earlier in the year. What I did in re: visa, was insist on a multiple visit visa for 12 months. It costs the same as a single entry visa, but you reduce the entry cost per visit if you are planning on more than one trip to China this year.

Can ou please clarify what you meant by "insist on a multiple visit visa for 12 months."? Did the Chinese ambassy try to give you less for the same money and you had to argue to INSIST on a 12-month visa?

The Chinese consulates will automatically give you a single entry visa unless you specifically state that you want a multiple visit visa. Tell them that you have plans to travel to China more than once during the next 12 months. It doesn't cost anything more. However, if you don't tell them up front, then you will only get one entry when they return your passport.
