I'm going to use my 500th post on FT to tell you to fly into Dublin and immediately take a train to the west of Ireland. Galway, Westport, Sligo, Galway, etc. Dublin can become just another city. Those others cannot.

Galway gets you pretty close to the Cliffs of Moher, too. My favorite place in all of Ireland is Doolin which is out west of Galway. The Cliffs are just up the road from Doolin.

If it were me and I was flying into SNN with only a few days, I'd take a coastal drive up to Galway, seeing the Cliffs of Moher on the way. Maybe take a day trip to the Connemara. There are definitely a lot of nice things to do on that side of the country.

If you want to travel out west that's an excellent gateway, or even if you want to split it up and do an open jaw into Shannon and home from Dublin. You do need to watch out for transit to the Shannon Airport, though. I stayed at Six Mile Bridge and got the local bus there for a morning flight, but it got me there just in time. There is a hotel right outside the airport doors (used to be Great Southern and is now a Park Inn) that might be the best option. The nearest big city is Limerick, but again if you have a morning flight and intend to use public transit pay careful attention to the bus schedules.

There is a bus stop right in front of the airport to get you out of there.
There is limited rail service in Ireland but not to Shannon. Dubin-Galway, for instance, could be done by rail.

Also, very easy to book day trips out from Galway or Killarney if you should go that far south. Galway offers tours to the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren (rocky countryside) as well as Connemarra, and Killarney has the Ring of Kerry tour. I was back with friends early this year and we just booked the night before.
Photos from that trip are in the middle of the page HERE.
