(FARE GONE) Jk (*a): Msy/phl/lax/bos-bcn/mad $395.90 rt; 3.95 cpm
Picked up a low fare to Madrid or Barcelona on Spanair this morning on Farecompare. With some limited searching on matrix.itasoftware.com, I found limited itineraries below $400 round-trip, such as the following:
Example: $395.90. 10026 miles. $.0395/mile. No fuel surcharge from the look of things. W class ticket.
Wed 1pm 9/28, New Orleans to Philly to Barcelona. Arriving 9/29 8:28am.
Wed 10:45am 10/5, Barcelona to Philly to New Orleans. Arrives 8:25pm.
Example with a relatively quick turn in Madrid: $427.70. 9539 miles. $.045/mile.
Sat 7am 9/24, New Orleans to Philadelphia to Madrid. Arrives 9/25 8:15am.
Mon 12:35pm 9/26, Madrid to Philadelphia to New Orleans. Arrives 8:23pm.
Fare appears to be valid all year (through April 2012). I only did a few searches for September and October. Quite a few options for $500 or less. There are also some multiple connection options that might be useful.
W class earns full elite and redeemable mileage (100%) on Continental at least. Flights appear US Airways operated. US Air for the same itinerary (example 2 above) was $970. I'm guessing it's a price mistake but not that well versed in these things.
I don't really fly enough to maintain status on two airlines and vowed to give up on my CO status but this has me wondering... Off to look for any promos that might make this more lucrative.

Very nice fare. Usually these end up being farecompare phantom fares. I see if from PHL for less than 300, but cant find availability. Must be phantom for some, and actual for others.
EDIT: Found sporadic availability at $320 from PHL
