Thanks for posting, Pat! I've got a friend that has not experienced p.s. and this might entice him to join me on a MR!

Nice! ^

Works vv as well, with a same-day turn possible (though it requires a 30 min. connection at SFO).

Thanks! In for 2 to achieve 1K for the year of 2010. Great post, as219 ^.
Works on EWR too. Got 2 EWR same-day returns (red-eye) for December. Anyone flying out of EWR let me know. We can meet in RCC

I've never flown a PS flight. How do I identify those flights or search for them? I too would like to fly on one. I assume the trick is to use your upgrade instruments to insure the preferred seating?

Any UA JFK-SFO, JFK-LAX, LAX-JFK, or SFO-JFK is ps. And nothing else is.

Booked EWR-SFO-RNO, RNO-PHX-SFO via Expedia to allow for a 9-hr stay.

Free shuttles to casinos ^
Here's hoping the trip won't end up costing more than $241 ai...

In case any one is interested in a 2-night stay:

Did you mean RNO-PHX-EWR on the return trip?

Appreciate the heads up @:-) it sounds like a good deal. Will have to research it further.

what's p.s.?

i'm also seeing same day turns, EWR-SFO-RNO-DEN-EWR but it's only adding up to 5151 EQM... and a 30 minute layover at SFO which is pretty tight.

ps is "Premium Service" flights on United which fly 757-200's only between JFK and SFO or JFK to LAX. (All seats are Economy Plus in Coach, but no UDU upgrades to Business or First)

http://www.united.com/page/article/0,6722,50964,00.html

Try this as your search on .bomb: (United.com)

Use flexible dates with same day turn.
Use JFK (ONLY and do not check nearby airports) to RNO
I just checked several dates in December and the base fare is $198 and the all in price is $240.80.

The layover is tight in SFO, but that is leaving on the 6AM ps flight out of JFK and that flight usually leaves on time and usually gets to SFO earlier than scheduled. Worst case is you miss the flight to RNO, and try to explain to United that you need to get back to JFK. You may get mileage credit even though you "missed" two legs of your flight.

I have not tried to optimize miles on this and higher mileage totals are probably possible.

Hope this helps.

I assume if you book the ticket, but don't fly out of RNO on the first leg, and try to pick up the flight at SFO or LAX, your ticket will be canceled?

Or can you tell United that you missed the flight and will catch it at LAX or SFO for the remainder?

You might be able to convince them. However, SOP is that if you miss part of the trip, the remaining segments are canceled.
