Bus from Cancun to Chetumal?
Hi guys,
I'll be flying into Cancun and was planning on taking a bus to Chetumal, then taking a boat from Chetumal to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye in Belize.
Has anybody done this before? Do you know if this can be done without spending a night in a hotel on each leg?
It seems to me that if I arrive in CUN, no matter what the time, it takes 5-6 hours to reach Chetumal by bus (not counting immigration at CUN.) The boats leave Chetumal for San Pedro around 3 PM, so there's no way to make it in one day.
Coming back from San Pedro to Cancun, the boats leave San Pedro for Chetumal around 7:30 to 8 AM, and it takes around 2 hours for the boat travel, not counting any possible immigration in Chetumal. That puts me in Chetumal around 10-11 AM. Then the bus back to CUN is 5-6 hours, putting me there around 5 PM at the airport.
Thanks!
Steve

stevechin: Plan on an hour for alighting the plane, immigration, and customs at CUN. You also need to decide whether to catch your bus to Chetumal from CUN or from downtown Cancun (which apparently has some benefits). Here are two series' of posts that I found which might be useful to you:

Thanks for the tip. But when I priced out the Interjet flight, it came out to around $260 USD, and that's more than I wanted to pay. But thanks!

This looks quite promising. Downtown Cancun does seem to have a better bus selection. Thanks!
