Hyatt to become JW Marriott Resort, Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico
The staff at the new Ritz Carlton Reserve in Dorado beach claim that the old Hyatt Regency Cerromar Beach Hotel will become a JW Marriott.
They plan to tear down the structure that has been closed since 2003.
The Hyatt time share next door is still open with limited restaurant offerings, This will be good news for them as well as tourism in Puerto Rico.
On a side note the Ritz Reserve occupancy so far this year has been very low except for Holiday periods.

Isn't there a JW Marriott Coco Beach Resort opening in Puerto Rico this year? Does that mean Marriott is going to build another JW resort on the north coast? Perhaps Marriott Vacations Worldwide will take over management of the Hyatt Hacienda del Mar (next door to the proposed new JW) and give it the renovation it sorely needs!
By the way, room rates at Ritz-Carlton Reserve Dorado Beach are astronomical-upwards of $1400 per night during high season. It is likely that these rates may have had an effect on occupancy.

Rumor - Old Hyatt Cerromar to become a JW Marriott Resort
As a cerromar Hyatt Time Share owner I would not plan on anything happening anytime soon. Hyatt has been floating rummers for years about this property. It's actually gotten to the point where the staff pretty much agrees that nothing is going to happen in the near future. The new Ritz is beautiful.

Ritz realized it had to enter the world of points--except for those properties which do not need to enter the world of points....
And can remain essentially empty so that those not worried about points do not need to mix with those who do worry about points.
I guess Marriott Corp is pretending that this new property it promoted as the next best thing in Puerto Rico never happened (just like Edition in Hawaii and Eden Roc/Ritz Carlton in South Beach never happened)...

As of right now, the JW Marriott in Coco Beach is not happening. However, it seems that the movement to try to build a JW where the Cerromar used to be is real. The problem is that there is still an apartment/time share complex there and they are trying to figure out what to do with it.

Don't See how they could get it done in 2015 if they aren't scheduled to break ground until Dec. Interesting it appears Putnam Bridge Funding is the new owner of the Marriott and La Concha in San Juan as well as the vanderbilt. Wonder if they may brand the Vanderbilt under the Marriott flag.

From a recent story in The Wall Street Journal.....
"CPG opened the ultra-luxury Ritz Carlton Reserve in Dorado in December 2012 and is on track to start construction on a 350-room J.W. Marriott, plus 40 timeshare units, on Dorado’s beachfront by year’s end"

I've stayed at the Hyatt Timeshare. The rooms are nothing to write home about but the resort itself is lovely. I thought they closed it down a few years back.
