We are not into scuba diving or any particular activity. Snorkeling maybe. But we won't choose one just because of a better snorkeling spot.

We are more looking at the total experience, a place to relax and lots of down time on the beach/by the pools.

Maybe airfare too? Is there any general trend regarding which destination tends to be cheaper to fly to?
We had an amazing time at the Marriott Puerto Vallarta. the service and food were excellent. We relaxed by the pool all day and were pampered by the excellent pool/bar staff.

We went at the end of Feb and the place seemed empty, which helped. The airfare was relatively cheap and you can normally find deals to mexico.

my wife, daughter and mom spent a week at the St. Kitts property last year and had a great week. There were food options for everyone (my daughter ate lobster every day). The beach was nice although a short walk took you to a better beach. They spent a day snorkeling at a reef and went over to Nevis on a catamaran. My wife said she would definately return to that resort. Just my 2 cents.

Los Suenos Resort in Costa Rica

We recently returned from a 5 night 6 day stay at the Los Suenos resort in Costa Rica. The airfare down was very reasonable (Chicago to San Jose was ~$250) and the pre-arranged shuttle to the hotel was ~$150 each way (took 1.5 hours).

The all inclusive package was extremely valuable as it covered all meals (small co-pay at 2 of the onsite restaurants), all room service, and all most drinks any of the bars. The staff was extremely knowledgeable about what was or wasn't included in the package and informed us whenever an extra charge might apply.

As for activities, we took a couple of the tours (zipline and rainforest) which were pricey but worth it. While we saw families with children, I would not say this is the most exciting location for kids. The pools are very nice and there are endless numbers of places to layout but there is very little in the way of child friendly activities.

My last thought, and word of advice, is to closely examine your itemized bill when staying with the all inclusive package. While the hotel does its best to ensure you do not get charged, the sheer volume of charges lends itself to possible mistakes. I found 4 charges totaling over $100 on my bill at the end of the stay. They were immediately removed upon request but if I hadn't been looking I would have never noticed.

Good luck with your selection and have fun!

Thank you all for the info. It sounds like the following all get pretty good reviews:

T1:
- CasaMagna Marriott Cancún Resort
- CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa
- Curacao Marriott Beach Resort & Emerald Casino
- Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort
And T2: - St. Kitts Marriott Resort & Royal Beach Casino

The two I think I'll try to avoid are
- Frenchman’s Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort (although it's cat 7, there seems to be some bad reps)
- Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort

So for us it might come down to airfare, and activities (we have two young toddlers that I doubt will care for much of the 'kid' activities provided on-site)

Is this still available via points? I was looking around at some of the properties, and it does not look like you can get the all-inclusive offer via points any more. Was thinking of going to st kitts later this year and this sounds like a great way to go.

NDflyer - Which two restaurants was the small co-pay for and how much was it? Did it only apply to lobster like the other resorts or any meal?

Grand Cayman Marriott

Just thought I'd share: The Grand Cayman Marriott no longer participates in the inclusive reward option. This change seems to have happened today (as it was available when I had checked something just yesterday). The Marriott website hasn't been updated yet.

Definitely threw a wrench in the works for plans I was just trying to finalize on the phone when I found out about it suddenly no longer being available.

I am screwed. I already booked this trip, and was carefully saving my points to cash in the for the AI at Grand Cayman...guess I will have to use my points for gift cards now and use the gift cards to cover meals. Would have been nice if there had been some warning...

I already had this fully booked on points for February. Will they still honor the AI package?

I would expect them too. I would consider this to be similar to any rate or package that ends. No one else can book it, but they must honor any existing reservations. Tough call as to whether or not to check with Marriott--they could tell you its over and give you the points back. That would suck!

does anyone still have their list of included amenities from their all inclusive stays? These sheets are given to you during checkin showing what foods, drinks, are included & which have the copays. i'm hoping we can get a few of these scanned and posted to help people understand whats included in each resort.

I was able to get an email from the property stating they would honor the AI reservation made via points before the option was pulled which is a relief

Take a look at my post in the PLT at Aruba Marriott thread. Even if AI at Marriott Aruba isn't available anymore, it still will give you some input and expectations. Besides food, one session of the Bon Bini Kids Club was included per day.
