Any recent stays at the Jaragua? The DR has become a big call center destination so Santo Domingo will become a regular stop for me going forward. I'm going to stay at the Jaragua for my first trip in November; I'm interested to hear if anyone has recent experiences at the Jaragua or tips for dining/entertainment in the general area.
At the very least, I'll post a trip report after my return...

If your stay includes a weekend, would appreciate it if you could report back on whether the exec lounge is open on the weekends & if not, if breakfast coupons are offered, even if lounge is closed is it key accessible for soft drinks, and if there's free i-net, whether wired or wifi. I'll then update the exec lounge stickey. Thanks!
Cheers.

Some upgrades
I just spent 3 nights at the Renaissance Jaragua. Paid the cheapest rate ($99 the first two and $75 the last night with hotel sold out) which was supposed to put me in the garden building. However, we were upgraded to the main building on club level. The first night we ended up having a 3rd person with us, and they gave us a rollaway for free and did not charge us for a 3rd occupant. They also gave us a wireless code that worked for 3 of us (3 different computers), which was really nice.
My biggest excitement was that the fitness center has been completely renovated. It used to be complete crap probably 20 years old. It now has all new LifeFitness machines. 4-5 treadmills, 3 ellipticals and several bikes. In addition to lots of weights (those aren't all new). Locker rooms were renovated as well.
The executive lounge is open 6 a.m.-midnight with full breakfast til 10 a.m., basic snacks and soft drinks available during day and more extensive appetizers/desserts in evening. The staff there is incredibly nice and helpful, especially Frank.

Are the garden rooms at this hotel really different than the main building? I think they are the ones with tiled floors and old wicker furnishings, which is why they are so cheap. Have these not been refurbished yet?
Is the hotel still using the Lather branded toiletries?

Holy in need of a renovation batman! We are all in luck as this coming April 2014 they will shut down for 10 months and totally renovate. This badly needed and can't come soon enough as I type this from the 10th floor lounge. People and staff are good, but the physical plant just isn't up to standards.
