On the other hand, using FHR at the Trump in NYC on several occasions, I've ALWAYS been upgraded exactly one level.
FHR doesn't offer a $50 hotel credit but does offer a $50 per person daily breakfast credit plus free internet and late checkout.

new york $495 > $695 (3 category)
vegas $89 > $189 (4 category)
when rates are higher, FHR can have great discounts at new york property, IIRC up to ~20% off base room.
