Amandayan mini-review (Lijang, China)
I was at Amandayan for a weekend about a month ago. It's not a very large property but it was incredibly charming. Arguably my favourite now of the ones I've visited. I did not get to meet the manager but Erica was wonderful.
There's a lot to do in Lijiang and I thought it was the most "authentic" place in China that I have visited (not too many to compare it with though). The guide they provided me, Abel, was knowledgeable, accommodating and first rate. I highly recommend the excursions.
The rooms and the architecture were beautiful. Soundproofing could be improved as the all-wooden structures can get noisy especially as people move around in the morning. The pool was absolutely gorgeous and just the right temperature.
Food was so-so but the service was excellent (bordering on excessive... the kind waitress did NOT really have to replace my knife after it fell on my place-mat). Still, the thought was appreciated.
Spa treatment was also among the best I've had.
Again, solid and wonderful property worthy of the Aman name at its finest.

There are only two main categories of rooms and the difference is minimal imho.
Open air pool. Great experience :-)
I flew to Lijiang directly from HK.
Can someone tell me how to add my photos directly to this post (i.e. not host them elsewhere?)

TheBrownPrince is right! we also had a fantastic stayed over The May holidays and we loved the room, the food and the SPA is also great!
There is a bit of noise from outside but that didnt bother us at all.
The staff I have to say are fantastic, from James to Erica and The GM Nicolas has done a great job so far under the soft opening stages.
We cant wait to get back.

Wonderful to have this first review about Amandayan. It looks to be a stunning Aman with a great chinese atmosphere. Is it well located into Lijiang and have you had the feeling to be into a big city or not cause Lijiang is actually a huge city. Was thinking if it's a bit like Amanfayun even if it's not into a temple but maybe it's pretty similar. Really want to visit this new Aman gem soon.

To answer your questions:
Sadly I did not get to meet the GM. He was out when I stayed.
Noise from the city was not an issue but the staff informed me that it can in fact be bothersome on some nights.
I did not feel that I was in the middle of a big city although Dayan is just down the hill from where the property is perched. For my entire stay, I felt as though I were in a secluded and exclusive retreat.
The hotel is still in soft opening. Not all the rooms are ready and the spa treatments are conducted in converted rooms instead of the actual designated space by the pool.
I do not know if the airport transfer is complimentary. I stayed at another hotel in town on my first night and was picked up by my Aman guide to begin our excursion early the next day. My tour for the day ended at Aman.
I did all the cultural excursions as well as the Snow Dragon Mountain. Everything was top notch!
There are a number of connections to the Lijiang airport from other main cities. Kunming and Chengdu seem the most convenient.
