lighting, can you comment on ski-in/ski-out accommodations?

i liked lodge verbier's aman/baillies style size/amenities.
club @ aurelio lech was the same style, but not sure they still book rooms.
looking forward to trying some more small EU mountain properties.
i wonder if w verbier will include 15 residences in inventory.

Probably not, but i have a lot of friends who still live and work in ski resorts so i can ask them. I haven't been a ski instructor for quite a while now.

Let me know what resorts you are looking at and i can send a few e-mails.

In terms of resorts, I can highly recommend Tordrillo in Alaska for anyone keen on some heli skiing. I was there recently and it was epic. ^

Having stayed at 2 GHM hotels I look forward to Chedi Andermatt and to W Verbier. there has always been a lack of good ski hotels.

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Principe delle Nevi in the Italian alpine resort of Breuil-Cervinia back in February.

Best ski in/out hotel I have ever stayed in , wonderful skiing in Cervinia and Zermatt.

http://www.principedellenevi.com/

located on the pistes. excellent food. modern. classy . stylish. pool . jacuzzi. spa etc. what more could you want ?!
we never visit the same place twice but i could honestly make this my permanent venue for skiing in the future.
the skiing area offered by Cervinia and Zermatt was huge and of excellent standard.
some people might see the room rate and think its expensive but worth every penny. especially considering it includes breakfast and dinner.

I just arrived back home from a very long vacation in France. I stayed in Le Kaila while I was there. I really had a great time there, food was great and everything was terrific...

I still stand by my top recommendation for Le Melezin - but looks like the Alpina Gstaad and Chedi Andermatt may be about to give it a run for its money!

Great thread btw - even to a non skier like me... who prefers to hit the spa then wait in the bar for husband to return
Ski areas in Gstaad don't appear to completely open until 12/15. That is why the place isn't sold out. I'm going to Alpina Gstaad the first week in Dec. I'll post a short review from the hotel when I'm there. I'm a non-skier.

PS -- It is also expensive. That may be another reason. This place has Aman-class pricing.

Remember if you are headed over the weekend of week 49 that this is Advent which is a 3 day weekend for many countries in Europe- Gstaad will be very busy as a result (for many ski resorts this is the first sell-out weekend of the year in Europe and it is a 3 day one- usually this is considered the official "kickoff" of ski season).

Tschuggen Grand Arosa

Although not as luxe as Alpina Gstaad or Chedi Andermatt, it may be worth considering Tschuggen Grand Hotel in Arosa. I enjoyed this property back in 2008 while in town for a wedding.

They have a great spa and the skiing in Arosa is great.

Thinking about heading to the Chedi Andermatt for Christmas week. We are not skiers but having never been to the Alps we'd like to experience it in fine style.

How are the views there? Is it similar to say St. Moritz?

Just want to revitalize this thread - L'Apgoee Courchevel, Le Melezin Courchevel, Chevel Blanc Courchel, Badrutt Palace St. Moritz... others?

Gstaad?

Thanks. I am referring to the winter season.

Add Alpina Gstaad and The Chedi Andermatt, although I think they are better than the ones you have mentioned. Have not tried L'Apogée yet.

I will add Alpina Gsaad to the list...

Can someone do a brief comparison - between Gstaad and Courchevel in terms of:
1. Skiing Quality
2. Town - Restaurants , Shopping things to do off the mountain
3. Atmosphere
4. Food and Restaurants
