Cove at Atlantis. Comments please.

Preface: At Cove for meetings.

Status: none

Rate: Paid by firm.

Transportation: From NAS to Cove prices are fixed. Like $27 for van.

Parking: n/a

Check-in: The Resort is sold out so no upgrade paid or not. A efficient process.

Perks: none

Lounge: none

Room: The rooms are described like Venetian Las Vegas suites from those who have been. The entry is at an angle. You enter onto carpet. To right is bathroom. Followed by a closet, then king bed, dresser drawer section, step down living room, coming around on upper level flat panel LG and desk with chair. In the step down a sofa with chair and comfy chair. Couple chairs with table. Huge flat panel with Bose sound system with I think a dvd player. You have a balconey looking towards "waterland".

Bathroom: A separate tub, toilet and shower. Marble out. Twin basins. Nice and elegant.

Internet: Wired in room. Very slow. $10 for 24 hours.

Gym: nice

Spa: reasonable given location

Eating venues: Some good and some so so. Service can be slow.

Local markets: Sundries shop. Expensive.

Local area: A nice spot which anyone would enjoy. The Cove is very nice.

Negatives: none

Closing: Had doubts about coming but glad I did. If you are thinking about it just go. Can not speak of other resorts in Atlantis only Cove.

Hello. Off to the Cove at Atlantis in February 08 for meeting. Will fly CO from west coast via IAH and FLL into NAS. Any comments on property appreciated. Do the rooms or should I say suites at the Cove have wired internet access? Cost? Thanks.

We did not stay at The Cove but at the O&O Ocean Club next door. However, we spent a lot of time at The Cove as some of the best restaurants are there (Nobu, Mesa Grille).

Sorry, I didn't see the rooms but the lobby design is very cool. They are definitely going for an Asian/Aman look and feel, only on a much larger scale. The lobby is open air with high thatched roof ceilings. At night, they light dozens of iron lanterns which line the pathway to the main restaurants. Service was good in the public areas and I guess they have their own private beaches and pools away from the masses of Atlantis.

I hope someone else can answer your questions about rooms and Internet. Sorry I can't be much help there.

Thank you. Very much. Sounds like a nice enough place. Can you comment on transport in? How does one get from NAS to the Island? What currency do they use? Does the property gouge on items aka bottled water? Any "mini" mart around? Thanks.

The trip from the airport to the island is easily done by car. You can grab a cab or book a driver ahead of time through the hotel. The car service is nothing fancy though. One guy owns this huge operation on the island and all of his limos and sedans are dark green(?) At any rate, he controls the market so the cars are just a little bit old/rundown, but they're fine.

USD.

And yes, everything (at the Ocean Club) is expensive. I mean really expensive. More than I can recall paying at FS and Aman for similar stuff. A few members of my family took a cab to a local mini-mart to get water and snacks for the kids so this is definitely do-able. Just request a fridge in the room ahead of time.

At The Cove right now. Booked through FHR and received 1 category upgrade to a larger room with pool view. The room is really nice, large bathroom, the decor is really Las Vegas as mentioned before. While the resort is enjoyable and most of the staff is okay, some are not. It took them 2 hours to get us some anti-allergic pillows when we wanted to go to bed. Some of the staff are plain rude. I really wanted to love the place but this is a big downside. Some have attitude, act as if they don't care about anything and give rude responses. Other FTers staying in the room next door here said the feel like big wallet for them to pick at. Never felt like this in any other hotel.
So Ocean Club next time. Or no more experiments and Aman all the way for the future.

Thanks for posting.

Can you comment a bit on the pool and beach? Is it packed, with many kids? How is the F&B? Thanks.

You can have both - the hustle and bustle of the Aquaventure park with its many pools and slides as well as the tranquility of an full service adult-only pool. This is something you won't be disappointed with, as the entire property is so huge and offers many possibilities.
Same goes for the F&B at Atlantis. There are uncountable restaurants and F&B outlets everywhere, ranging from pizza and hot dogs near the pool to something more high-end like 'Nobu'. Be prepared to pay. A lot. Everything is expensive. I have no problem splurging on fine dining in a wonderful restaurant in Paris oder NY, but somehow I can't see the value for the money here. We (2 persons) had a quick buffet dinner, just some water and the bill came out to 210 $ without extra gratuity (and this was not Nobu). The food was okay, but certainly nothing spectacular. I paid less money for better food at the FS Bora Bora or Amankila where the setting is more elegant and the waitress doesn't bring the check while you're still eating the appetizer.
Some more observations: Internet (14$ / 24hrs) is so slow, it took 30 seconds to open a page on FT. TV and entertainment system in the room is excellent (HD channels, surround system etc). Some corners in the bathroom are, let's say... not 100% clean. Turndown service was great, and the woman who did it was really nice and courteous, made us feel welcome. 'Concierge' on the other hand gave us the feeling that it's a great honor for us to being allowed to pay $$$ for a Dolphin Cay activity for the daughter. Higher management at the Cove is invisible so far - never saw something like a Front Office Manager, Guest Relations etc...

I was at the Cove over President's Day weekend in Feb (on casino comp), and the Cove pool was definitely not tranquil. Think Las Vegas pool scene... we really liked it, but if you're planning on reading a book, relaxing, or taking a nap out there, you'd be better off at another one of the Atlantis pools.

As for the food... we ate at Nobu and Mesa (have eaten at other outposts of both), and found the service at Nobu (which is off the main casino floor, and not in the Cove tower as alluded to upthread, FWIW) to be far superior to that at Mesa. The food at both was great.

Overall, I enjoyed myself there, but would not fly from SF again, unless I combined it with a trip to Miami. If I lived on the East coast and could be there non-stop, that would change things.

Planning on going here in June and the cheapest I can get for 3 nights is around $2100 for base room. This is via their own site.

Any tips on which sites offer the best deals for this resort?
