BRU - CPT // JOH - BRU // Award ticket bad deal?
Hi guys,
I am a Sen at MM. I am looking to book two tickets leaving on May 7th from Brussels to Cape Town, returning on May 25th Jo'burg - Brussels for our honemyoon.
For both flights, I get following options:
Expedia: 1283 EUR
Lufthansa.com: Restricted economy: 1,920 EUR
Award ticket: 900 EUR taxes + 90,000 miles
Is there any reason I would take the award ticket? It seems a very bad deal.. Also a bit frustrated there is no business class tickets available anymore..
I have about 110,000 miles (+ 2 evouchers....), and can top up another 50,000 if I convert Amex points. Any recommendation?
BTW - any perk or chance of getting an upgrade when on a honeymoon
Thanks !!
Louis

Full priced award tickets give you a bit more flexibility (and full refundability against 50E) then cheaper tickets.
They can also give you two stopovers for free, which isn't always the case for cheaper tickets.
Have a look at Y+ award, "taxes" (just LH fees) are the same, so it's only a bit of a mileage premium for more comfort on board. I wouldn't count on an complimentary upgrade though.

Don't think you will get a free upgrade. Rather a free bottle of bubbly on board, if you tell the FAs that you are on honeymoon.
Enjoy!
