Ah I see, that's how it works..it's great that you get to do so much. On the other hand, I recently read an article in the Wirtschaftswoche magazine about how really serious frequent flying is not necessarily so good for one's long term health!

Yes I did wonder about it. My partner who is a doctor was fairly dismissive of it.
One question though: last year (2015) I qualified for FTL and my status is extended to February 2018. If I do the 30 segments again this year and requalify will it be extended to 2020? I had a couple of dead years before requalifying in 2015.

As your status is valid until 02/2018, you can requalify in 2016 OR 2017.
If you do so in 2016, then 2017 will be a dead year.
If you don't in 2016, you have the possibility in 2017.
No matter if you requalify in 2016 or 2017, your status will be extended till 02/2020.

My status was until 2/2017 and I requalified in 2015, so now good until 2/2019. So 2016 is dead year for me...

Dead year for me too. Will probably credit to M&M nonetheless and also requalify SQ PPS. I am very happy with SQ for my longhauls to Asia so why should I fly something else. On the other hand the benefits of PPS are marginal to me. But as a simple minded person I do enjoy FC wines/champagne in C . And since you can double dip PPS comes in almost automatically.
I am also tempted by QR but they don't have an attractive night flight schedule to my usual Asian destinations.
To the US etc. I continue to fly LH/LX.

Ironically my first flight in 2016 will be MUC-CGN on AB. IN their ultralight eco fare, where you don't even get to pick a seat at checkin. LH was 40EUR cheaper if I was willing to hang a round in CGN for 4 hours more on a friday afternoon, but my colleague had already picked the earlier AB flight
I'm curious what is going to be more horrid: visiting the BMWi mandarins or the AB middle seat at 8am
