Driving from Santa Monica to Las Vegas

I've also posted this on the Las Vegas forum since it's about both locations.

I'm driving tommorow from Santa Monica to Vegas. I know it's a 5 hour drive, but is there any traffic along the way on a Sunday? I'll be leaving at about 11 to 1. Is there a better time to drive on a Sunday? Is 11 better than 1 or are both times ok?

Should be fine, minimal traffic, unless there's a major event at the Fairgrounds 10/210 interchange. Just listen to KNX 1070 for traffic updates.

I-10 and I-210 intersect in Redlands, far east of the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds and the OP's itinerary.

I was thinking of the old Raging Waters jingle, where the 10/210/57 meet in San Dimas!

Yeah, it used to be bad when the 210 terminated just east of the 57 before it was extended to the 15, the 215 and eventually as far as the 10 in Redlands. In those days all the Las Vegas, mountains and lower desert traffic had to go down on the 57 from the 210 to the 10. Fortunately, those days are history.

Foothill Blvd as alternative? I remember many delays being due to snow or an overturned truck on the Cajon pass to Victorville....

There is no need. The 210 is a modern and mostly uncongested freeway that parallels Foothill Blvd. Regardless of time of day, the 210 will be considerably faster than taking surface streets.

actually, 980 (traffic on the ones) is a better choice, particularly on a sunday. knx's "traffic every six minutes" is notoriously unpredictable on weekends, as they don't interrupt their cooking or whatever shows with traffic updates.

from santa monica, 10/605/210/15 is probably the easiest route.
