LANPASS qualification changes.

http://www.lan.com/es_pe/sitio_perso...doro_2011.html

Now its 120,000 kilometers OR 8 paid executive class medium or long distance flights. For 2010 it was 90,000 km. PLUS 6 executive class flights.

I think protecting the top status tier (keeping it exclusive) is a good thing for everybody. If AAnother AAirline I know had been more clued into that I might have stayed with them instead of defecting to LAN.

they are also changing the criteria for qualifying to Premium Silver:

http://www.lan.com/es_pe/sitio_perso...lver_2011.html

Now it's either
-60,000 kms in LAN/OW
-30,000 kms in LAN/OW and 40 LAN segments
-6 medium or long distance Premium Business segments

Makes sense to me for them to up the km requirement. They likely had the lowest requirement for top tier status of any major airline and when giving away free upgrades on any fare for that status on long haul flights, they better make people fly a little more. 120,000 km is still less than 75,000 miles which is Platinum for most airlines.

Just a question too out of curiosity. When they say 8 paid exective class medium/longhaul ticket segments does this mean that someone that buys JFK-GYE-JFK and travels 4 times a year in Business is a top tier elite (Comodoro)??? That would be amazing, I'd definitely consider switching to LAN if I could be Comodoro....I see Business Class fares on that route for less than $1000 occassionally and at most $1800 which aint bad considering you get a flat bed and pretty good service.

If I'm reading this correctly, in the 2010 Comodoro qualification chart option 1 is 150,000 kms in LAN/OneWorld or 100 segments on LAN. Option 2 is 90,000 km and 6 minimum segments in paid LAN business class.

In the 2011 Comodoro qualification chart you linked to, option 1 is now 120,000 kms in LAN/OneWorld or 70,000 kms and 40 segments on LAN. Option 2 is 8 segments in paid LAN business class.

LAN/OneWorld km qualifiers like me welcome the drop from 150,000 to 120,000 km to qualifiy for Comodoro.

The title of this post is completely incorrect. LAN is significantly lowering the qualification for both Comodoro and Premium Silver.

Comparing apples to apples from 2010 to 2011:

Comodoro (kilometers only):
2010 - 150000
2011 - 120000
Comodoro (kilometers + J segments):
2010 - 90000 + 6 J segments
2011 - 70000 + 4 J segments
Comodoro (J segments only):
2010 - n/a
2011 - 8 J segments

As with anything, these changes have their pros and cons. They are making it easier to access the Top-Tier, meaning more competition for upgrades, etc. They making their top-tier available for 75,000 miles (like some US carriers), which departs from having it in-step with AA's tiers (100/50/25).

To answer GYEWorldTraveler's question, yes, Comodoro can be had for 8 J segments on medium to long-haul (e.g. JFK_GYE_JFK).

Like marinersdave mentioned, it's really 70000 + 40 LAN segments... I think the easier way to qualify used to be 90,000 kms + 6 J. I think that considering that the lowest fares only get 25% kms on non-intercontinental flights, it's hard to reach 70,000 kms on commuter flights alone (but I don't really have an specific example).

The comparison:

Comodoro (kilometers only):
2010 - 150000
2011 - 120000
Comodoro (kilometers + J segments):
2010 - 90000 + 6 J segments
2011 - NA
Comodoro (kilometers + LAN segments):
2010 - NA
2011 - 70000 + 40 segments
Comodoro (LAN segments only):
2010 - 100 segments
2011 - NA
Comodoro (J segments only):
2010 - n/a
2011 - 8 J segments

Thanks for catching that andreadbc.

I still think that a 20% reduction in KM needed for Comodoro (150k --> 120k) is a significant change and makes it easier to qualify (especially for those that mainly do long-haul).

I'd like to point out that the OP's link directs to the Peru version on LAN's website. The link comes from this page: http://www.lan.com/es_pe/sitio_perso..._comodoro.html and says:

Conoce la nueva forma de calificar a Comodoro para socios en Perú desde el 1 de enero de 2011. Ver mas

I checked the USA version (english/spanish), Chile, Spain, and those were all with the old formulas.

So, much like their lowest fares in Peru, this special formula for qualification is only for members in Peru. Perhaps they will impose a fine of $178.50 for this too, if one cannot prove residency in Peru.

Only for Peru residents

It seems, as AdamSouthFL, this is just for PERU residents.

All others stay the same.

What if you change your address in your profile?

You need a freight forwarder in Peru.

Three or four years ago we had easier requirements here in Peru as well. I didn`t even consider checking the other country pages; I should have. I had already purchased all my flights for 2011 so I can´t take advantage of the easier qualification criteria (4 round trips in executive class from Peru are a much cheaper form of obtaining Commodore status than by accumulating Kms.). I hope they don´t change back for a few years.

LANPASS Premium Silver qualification change

Is it just my imagination or has LAN moved the goalposts for Premium Silver qualification

Was it not...

60,000kms in LAN and/or one world with at least 4 LAN segments
30,000kms with 40 LAN segments
40,000kms with 4 LAN medium/long haul premium business segments

The last one appear to have become simply

6 Premium business segments

It depends on the website you go to jeje
(really we should all make an attempt to mention the web site location when we talk about Lan or LanPass).

On Peru site:
Acumulando 60.000 kms. en LAN o oneworld
Volando 30.000 kms. y 40 segmentos LAN
Volando un mínimo de 6 segmentos de medio o largo alcance, en LAN, en Premium Business

On Canada site:
Accumulating 80.000 kilometers with LAN or oneworld.
Flying 60 segments with LAN
Earning 40,000 kilometers with LAN in Business Class with a minimum of 4 medium or long range portions

So does anyone know how this works? If you have a Peru address listed with LanPass do you get to use the Peru criteria and use the country site criteria in which you live otherwise?
