Does KL sell upgrades to business?

Does KL sell upgrades to business from cheap economy fares? I'm flying JFK-AMS-JFK with KL, and would be quite interested in upgrading at least AMS-JFK.

Upgrades are only available from full-fare economy, and only with FB miles. They will process them in the lounge before departure if there are any available.

A few stations (JNB and CPT amongst others) allow day of departure upgrades from discount economy. In addtion to the usual number of miles they will charge between 50 and 250 Euros (depending on the original booking class) to reissue your ticket in B class.

You can purchase upgrade at the ticket offices and on board.
But the fare difference is really high.

It is almost always possible to upgrade a fare as stated in the fare rules, but it takes more than (say) 250 bucks to get you up front. You'll need to pay the complete fare difference.

Indeed, as stated before you can purchase an upgrade with miles. But even then you'll need to upgrade to the higher (upgradeable) fare.

I've been trying use my miles to upgrade from S fare on a SEA-AMS flight next September but they keep telling me that there is no availabilty (business class has enough seats empty). Supposedly, upgrades will become available later, during the summer. Anybody with experience in this?

That's not KL metal, so they really have no say in availbility. Upgrades on NW metal are rare. And if you were to make it up front, you'd be stuck in the worst business seat in the sky, so I'd say save your points and enjoy the VOD in coach.

It depends on the plane.
I think the NWA A330 J-clss seats are just fine!

True, all booking classes are eligible at these stations EXCEPT V-class.

The following stations allow miles+€€€ upgrades :

Middle/South America: CUR BON AUA LIM

Africa: ACC CPT JNB

Asia: ICN HKG PEK TPE PVG DEL BOM (NW 41) BKK MNL NRT KIX SIN

Europe: FRA (NW 51 only)

To upgrade to B costs:

€ 250 from Q
€ 200 from L
€ 150 from H
€ 100 from K
€ 50 from M

That, at least, is what they charge in JNB, don't know whether prices vary between stations.

Any ideas what an upgarde from T to B will cost?

Can I upgrade AMS to DEL too? Or is it just DEL > AMS sector?

Thanks Johan^

No, I'm not even sure that T class is eligible.

No, AMS is not a participating station (yet).

Johan

The information is not completely correct.
The bump-up fees to B-clss from CPT/JNB are:

T: 300 EUR
Q: 250 EUR
L: 200 EUR
H: 150 EUR
K: 125 EUR
M: 100 EUR

for a one-way to AMS only (+ the required miles to upgrade from B to WBC cabin).

So, yes, T, does qualify.
