How early before your flight,can you check bags?

How early before your flight,can you check bags?
we have a flight from fll around 6pm.
Assuming we check in on line,will we be able to check our bags in around 2pm and then take a taxi up to the beach for a late lunch?
We'll be dropping a rental car off at Fll,so hence the handyness of checking the bags early.
What is the earliest typically that this can be done?

Checked baggage will not be accepted earlier than 4 hours and no less than 30 minutes prior to schedule departure time.
