Some walking trails are closed, as well as the area around Owakudani, and the threat level has just been raised from Level 1 to Level 2.

Just heard that the ropeway is closed today as well.

Glad I got there last summer then! The ropeway is fun.

In an adjacent canyon to the road to Owakudani, one that I happened on by chance, there was some very nice columnar joining which is evidence that the area has a LOT of volcanic activity all over the place.

Yet another raise in threat level.

Volcano alert raised for Mount Hakone after small eruption

What a bad day it was for Japanese tourism yesterday. There was an inferno in a Shinkansen bullet train. An old man set himself on fire.
