Cool A Few Days in Milan

With the recent deals to Milan, there will likely be quite a few FTers spending a few days there. I was hoping some of the locals or those who have spent a lot of time there could point out a few of the lesser known attractions beyond "The Last Supper," Opera alla Scala, and Lake Como that are worth a visit.

Any recommendations for hotels and restaurants that you like would also be appreciated.

I found a few threads here already that may be helpful:

I will also likely visit Venice via train, so any recommendations there would be appreciated as well.

Grazie!

I'm one of them, so thank you for compiling the list of relevant threads all in one place.

Lots of stuff to see in Milan including museums besides the above (the Brera, Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, Poldi-Pezzoli [and the other houses] and Science Museum among others), shopping (the quadrilateral including Via Montenapoleone and the Ferrari store), churches (Duomo and numerous others). Lots of good food depending on your budget but a visit to Peck if just to look around is fun. Not as obvious as Rome, Florence or Venice but plenty to do.

If your stay goes beyond the MR turnaround, I'd suggest to explore further Milan.
Both Trenitalia and Italo Treno offer high speed connections to most Italian cities (to Rome takes 3h), where it's easy to connect with minor towns, by far more charming and peaceful.
Most of Wideroe folks are traveling in winter, which in Milan can be stiff, hence heading south could relief few degrees.
Cinque Terre in Liguria, countless towns and villages in Umbria and Marche, are less known but not less intriguing than Tuscany.
Until getting to Amalfi coast and Apulia on the other side of the boot. Classic summer destinations have most business shut, but from a certain point of view this is what makes them genuine.

I'll be there also. Looks like the opera tickets cost more than my airplane ticket.

Ok, i'm on the same boat here figuring out what to visit on my 7 days trip to Milan. So far I booked a luxury hotel for 2 nights in Venice, supposedly at 70% off:

http://www.voyage-prive.com.br

The other 5 days are open, I'm between renting a car and visiting the nearby countryside for 2 days or taking a train (3 hr max) to another city, but which one? Florence comes to mind, I've been there already, how about Parma - I could devour some linguini al fungi with Parmegiano Romano right now!

Any suggestions? Good deals?

Doing my research about Milan (April 15-21st for my family), I read about 'Culture Week'. Looks like in years past it has fallen during the week around Easter. I've search online and seen the http://www.beniculturali.it pages but nothing shows yet for 2014.

Wondering if anyone knows more?

Don't know if this will be helpful:

Rail Europe is offering its first Cyber Monday promo (which extends to December 6) offering $100 off Global and Select Eurail passes. Valid travel dates are December 2, 2013, through March 31, 2014. Visit the rail website and enter coupon code CYBER2013.

I'll try to use it tomorrow when buying train tickets from Milan to Venice.

I did some research and found that near the Duomo is the best location to stay in Milan, now I'm looking for 4* hotel deals in that area.

I am going solo to Milan for three nights in January. My tentative plans include:
Day 1: Milan--Duomo, Last Supper, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, not sure what else
Day 2: Day trip to Venice
Day 3: Day trip to see the Swiss Alps (take the train from Milan to Tirano, then the Bernina Express from Tirano to St. Moritz)

I booked the Crowne Plaza Milan City for 45 Euro per night last week during IHG's 2-day sale.
