Didn't see a thread here on this:

Is this for every member? Because the past few point purchase sales had people's bonuses ranging from 25% to 100%.

Can I just check...this is the cheapest way to 'buy' points isn't it?

I don't get that many as I'm just a leisure traveller

I assume these are not elite qualifying points? I'll be 3k points away from Spire this year, if they're elite qualifying I would seriously think about it.

I have purchased points on a couple of occasions and they are definitely not qualifying.

Hi -

The only way purchased points counts as EQP is if you buy them as part of an overnight stay package. For example, many hotels have a "1000 bonus points package" or a "5000 bonus points package".

If you receive a room at those rates, the 5000 points DO count as EQP.

Do you pay taxes on these points?

I just got the credit card and so was thinking off topping out the promotion for an upcoming trip, the way i figured it was cheaper to buy points and use them for the stay than pay per night.

also, just want to check i can buy the 60k (for my point allotment purchase for year) but let's say my partner can also buy point and gift them to me right? so you can buy 60k and get gifted 60k or is it just one time 60k per account?

From my understanding, IHG charge you a US$5 fee to transfer for every 1000 points. Best thing to do is have your partner also purchase the maximum alloted points, and book wherever required. If your partner is not going to be joining you for these bookings, just have her add your name to the Additional guests list which will allow you to check in without the need for her to be there.

I picked up 80,000 points (including the bonus) and booked a Holiday Inn Express for less than half of the best rate I could find on HotelsCombined. Was a no brainer for me as it was cheaper than every other half decent hotel in the area and included breakfast.

Thanks, well i went ahead and purchased the maximum because either way it was a no brainer for my upcoming san francisco trip, its 35k per night and with what i bought works to about 200 a night, i cant find any other hotel in that price range and its currently selling for $482 so I figured might as well pay for the points than risk paying more for a hotel and maybe there will be no other sake on any other brands, i figure since we get 10% back, thats what 10.5k points back so its realy about 32k a night so not bad,. its just so hard to swallow $690 all at once right at the holidays!
