Iberia to introduce Premium Economy

Sounds weird, are they really going to rip out seats from new planes
and from those they have just refurbished

• A330-300: J cabin reduced by 7 seats (from 36 to 29) and
new Premium Economy cabin will offer 21 seats (+5%). Weight reduction approx. 700 kg

• A340-600: J cabin reduced by 10 seats (from 46 to 36)
and Premium Economy cabin with +23 seats (+4%). Weight reduction 850 kg aprox.

It's been mentioned before that A350 might have PE

I can certainly see a market for PE on some routes from MAD. Makes sense to install it and drive revenues.

PE definitely attracts a price premium to Y - especially from corporate travellers blocked from J by company policies - while costing not much more to the airline in terms of space, weight and onboard service.

Surprised to see it coming from a reduction in J though. Although perhaps I shouldn't be surprised considering that the BAEC devaluation hammered J and F awards, whereas in many cases IB+ reduced the prices of J awards (to try and fill cabins I assume).

Maybe we'll be able to get W seats for our travel policy now rather than having to stay in Y for up to 10 hours.

A lone J seats in A333 mini-cabin?

So here is the one million dollar question for all of you:

• A330-300: J cabin reduced by 7 seats (from 36 to 29) and
new Premium Economy cabin will offer 21 seats (+5%). Weight reduction approx. 700 kg
If you look at the Iberia A330-300 seat maps, there is a mini J cabin (row 8 and 9) in the second section. presumably this would be where the J seats to be taken out and the new Y+ seats being put in. This means 2 rows of J seats taken out and 3 rows of 2-3-2 Y+ seats in.

However, there are 8 J seats in this mini J cabin.

So it would be ridiculous to keep one J seat only in the mini J cabin. (or would they? )

Somehow they will add one J seats in the front cabin and that would add another row with one seat only. Anyone care to guess where the extra J seats to be put and why?

Almost guaranteed to be a no. Especially if they want the configuration to be the same between IAG carriers. It's considered an entirely separate class of service.
