Hotels all over the planet have been wired for WiFi access,it just takes money and the willingness to invest in your product. The Luxor is not a special case.
They have WiFi in their public areas, they can install routers in their rooms. There are already ethernet cables in all the rooms they just have to hook routers up to these. Not difficult-just takes money.

My understanding is that there are two areas with wifi in Luxor; one is Starbucks. I don't remember the other. Both are in a limited area. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You have provided no indication of inside information on how easy or complex installing wifi throughout the hotel is. I know you've posted very many useful posts in the past, but let's not jump to the conclusion that installing wifi in the Luxor is an easy task. If it were easy/inexpensive, do you really think that MGM resorts would balk at installing wifi? Think about it.

I was just looking at two hotel booking sites and they said this property had over 4,400 rooms. Is anything easy and cheap when that many rooms are involved? Sounds like it would be a major project to me.

I never claimed that it would be inexpensive-although I do not think it would be a prohibitively expensive operation.
I actually asked someone who does this sort of thing for a living about this and I am not just spouting off- I have no idea why anyone would be so defensive about a hotel NOT upgrading it's infrastructure.

Actually the entire lobby area(not just Starbucks) has WiFi options-a free one which is painfully slow, and a couple of pay for use options. These are labeled as "Luxor Wifi".

The role of a hotel attached to a casino has always been to attract people to the casino-that is where the(huge) profit is. People staying in rooms looking/working at their laptops are not feeding the slot machines and thus they are not profitable guests for the casino/hotel.

In the old days the rooms of the hotels were decorated with loud gaudy colors. This was not just because of a decorators poor taste but rather because the thinking of the time was that these loud colors would make staying in the room(rather than playing in the casino)uncomfortable when you were not sleeping.

I'm not defensive, I just didn't like your 'nonsense' response to my post passing on what I was told by hotel employees. And then you further went on to state that 'Hotels all over the planet have been wired for WiFi access,it just takes money and the willingness to invest in your product. The Luxor is not a special case.' Really? How many wifi networks have you installed in large buildings?

So you spoke to 'dis guy who does dis fer a living'. Great, you're going down that path. Does the person you spoke to have any idea of the building materials used in the Luxor? How about electronic interference between other electronic systems already in place?

The Luxor is a unique structure; if the walls have metal materials for support of the building, that would create wifi problems throughout the building.

You sound like installing a few wifi routers throughout the hotel will instantly make the Luxor wifi capable. Read this article: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/blogs/2011/04...e-in-tin-foil/
The glass exterior of the building alone could be also creating problems for wifi installation. Here's another article involving wifi cameras and not being able to have a reliable signal due to building materials: http://www.mistralsolutions.com/hs-d...article-3.html

By the way, some rooms in the west tower do have wifi, but word is that it's very slow. So I guess that would give one something else to complain about.

I don't know what's required to install wifi in a building and neither do you. I simply passed on information relayed to me by employees. I don't know why you think you're some sort of expert on installing wifi networks. And yes, you are just spouting off.

I stayed at LUXOR twice this week on a mini Hyatt MR. I was in the Vegas area working with another client and had the opportunity to spend a couple nights on the strip.

On the first night, a Monday, I stayed at Luxor in a Pyramid Deluxe King on the 22 floor. Due to OPERA being down (not surprising), they were not moving rooms for anyone. I had booked a queen as the king was not available at booking with a request for a king on the reservation. I guess I was lucky because I was pre-assigned a king room.

The room was close to the elevator, so no huge walk. It faced the Mandalay Bay, but the exterior window was quite dirty. The room itself was fine. I had some apprehension due to reviews that I have read, but I found the room fine. It is not the Park Hyatt, but adequate and clean. Very acceptable for a night or two. My only real issue in the room is that the HVAC unit was not very effective in cooling the room. It is not a true AC and therefore they do not really have AC this time of year. Granted it was cool outside, but the room was a bit too warm for my liking.

The room rate on MLIFE was $36 plus the $20 resort fee. There was a coupon in the book at check-in that offered a $20 F%B credit. This made the resort fee a little more tolerable. Granted the pricing is higher to offset....

The second stay was in a Deluxe King Tower room in the East tower. There is a slightly longer walk to the tower room, but not that bad. The room was a little more modern and similar to the room pictured above. The HVAC worked much better in this room, but it was a connecting room and you could clearly hear the drunk idiots next door. I would prefer the tower room in the future, but would be fine in a Pyramid room as well. On this stay I had booked a Pryamid King and due to no non-smoking rooms in the Pyramid being available, they gave me the Kind Tower as an upgrade. MLife Rate of $85 Friday night.

As far as MLIFE, I cannot say that I had any real preferential treatment by being PLT. Perhaps better room location.

Luxor is a decent property and as others have stated, similar to other average Hyatt Regency Convention hotels. Not really the place to go for the special occation trip, but great for MR and a one or two night stay.

I checked in using the regular line as I did not quickly spot the invited guest line and there really was no wait.

I am still waiting for credit to apply for these stays.... Check out was Tuesday and Saturday. neither have posted. My Thursday night stay at the Hyatt Place LAS has already posted.

EDITED TO ADD SOME PIX..

Mlife Gold/Platnum is a Big Deal.

I have been upgraded to a 1,000 sqft suite at Luxor, 1 bedroom suite at Excalibur and a corner suite at Aria. The big deal is that you don't wait in the hour++ line at Aria/Bellagio Buffets!!

Flew LAS-NRT on Saturday morning, so my friend and I booked the Luxor for Friday night. With the mLife Plat discount, it was $78 (plus another $25 for the resort fee).

Check-in was a breeze, thanks to the mLife Plat/Noir line. Regular lines looked to have at least 50+ people. The agent thanked me for being mLife Plat, made sure my Hyatt # was on file, and then told me that I was being 'upgraded' to a Tower Deluxe Room vs. the Pyramid Deluxe Room I had booked. (difference between the two is 29sq feet)

For $78, it was a decent room. I am curious to see how long it takes for Hyatt to post the stay. My August stay at the Mandalay Bay took a lot of manual intervention to post.

There was no wifi in the room (supposedly it had wired internet), but the FD told me that they are working to install wifi and will supposedly have it going in the next few months.

Stayed at the Luxor for two days before New Year's. Hyatt Diamond, matched to MLife Platinum, first time in Las Vegas and first time at an MLife resort. I was initially somewhat worried due to the mediocre reputation of the property, but we had a decent enough time.

There are indeed two places to check in as a Platinum/Noir, the MLife VIP lounge which is right near the "moving" (quotation marks since half the ones we encountered weren't moving) walkways and the desks next to regular check-in. Significant lines at check-in but we breezed right through. Also the VIP lounge is open most of the day and has coffee and a small selection of drinks (bottled water, small cans of soda and juice).

We got a Pyramid Deluxe King on the 26th floor and it really wasn't too bad. The room had a slight smoke odor, but so does the rest of Las Vegas. The room itself was a bit worn but not too bad. I would put it one notch below a typical Hyatt Regency room but it was not offensive to my tastes. If you're expecting luxury, you're at the wrong place. It was certainly worth the $33.75 a night plus (ridiculous) resort fee.

We got into the Mandalay Bay Shark Reef for free with our Platinum status - skipped the ticket line, got comp tickets, and then skipped both lines going in. Very nice! We tried the same thing at the Mirage Secret Garden and were denied - "No free tickets for Platinums" we were told. Did not try the Bellagio Art Museum.

While the Luxor was OK, I found almost everything about Las Vegas to be completely distasteful. Even though I like to gamble, LV epitomized almost everything I don't like: smoking everywhere, kids running all over the place (even on the floor of every casino we visited), conspicuous consumption, artificiality, endless chain restaurants, tackiness, complete rubes wandering around, blatant drunkenness, etc.

A good value, I suppose, if you're MLife Platinum and like Las Vegas.

Still no in room WiFi-even though there is a cable modem

Upgraded to a "deluxe" room. Room was in desperate need of refurbishment, case goods all scratched, upholstered goods all stained, carpet was disgusting(I never removed my socks)

No more coupon book at check in

Still no in room WiFi although there was a cable modem box sitting on top of the dresser. You have to go to a "public space" to use the WiFi-I used the tour lobby which had a good strong signal but limited privacy.

We had dinner at Tender (using a MyVegas $75 off coupon) and found it to be very good. Breakfast at the buffet was nasty.

I doubt I will stay (at least to sleep) here again
