Its time for a Hyatt in Downtown Detroit. I for one gave plenty of business in Detoit and rooms are usually full and up near 200 a night for a Garden Inn. With the casinos Downtown Detroit is picking up. So Hyatt pleas open up a Regency or a Hyatt Place in the city.

Seeing the Westin Book Cadillac is nearing financial ruin, I don't see Hyatt heading downtown anytime soon. A sad loss for Hyatt in SE Michigan.

I'm glad the additional article was posted as it provided some additional context.

Which I'll share a bit of here: The Dearborn Hyatt was bought by the current owners for $11 Million, but the additional cost to refresh and upgrade the property will be about $20 Million (or just under $26K per room). Which is apparently too rich for their blood. Which means the owners are aiming downscale.

Now, about the Book Caddy (a Starwood property) in downtown Detroit, I've heard rumblings of troubles with the building owners and some debt service payments that weren't made on time; but one thing I haven't seen is any indication occupancy rates are excessively low or that the management company is having trouble operating the hotel at all. Everything feels fresh and nice and relatively busy there.

No quibble with the article link being posted. Just amused at the way the post was phrased, as if there had been no prior discussion right in this thread.

Westin Book Cadillac Detroit is running at 65% occupancy, but average daily rate is only $140, as opposed to $180 projection, per this article:

Conference mid-June 2012

I am supposed to attend a conference at this hotel in mid-June. So I just have to ask: Exactly how bad is this hotel? Is it bad enough that I should stay somewhere else a couple miles away and drive to the conference from other hotel?

Also, do you think it wil still be a Hyatt in 30 days or will it get unbranded that quickly? And do you think they will honor Hyatt Platinum amenities even though Hyatt is in the process of "pulling out"

Thanks

Very bad! Stay elsewhere! Reminds me of an 80's hotel. Stay away. Diamond was nothing here so Platinum will be the same.

Let me put it this way. If the owners end up shuttering the property I'm sure they will need to make quite a few improvements to attract the homeless and squatters to the newly abandoned building. Stay at the Dearborn Inn (maybe 1mile away) or The Henry (former Ritz-Carlton about 200 yards away).

On a serious note, the scuttlebutt about a year ago was that Sears was going to relocate their headquarters to the complex the Hyatt is in. I guess that never went through.

So how did this one get judged so bad Hyatt decided to take a walk? Not the only HR with bad Flyer Talk reviews. Not even sure its FT's most abused. Is there a firm date I'm overlooking? We could even start a Hyatt last night club and pack the place out.

I didn't see any firm date - perhaps this is a negotiation technique?
