Update in Hyatt BRG policy (April 2019): If your BRG claim is approved, you can choose either 5,000 World of Hyatt points or an additional 20% off the matched rate for your stay (defined as consecutive nights at the same location). Rates available on websites that require membership which is free of charge, or where membership is automatically created as part of the booking, are eligible for BRG claims.

.................................................. ..........

Recent Experiences Using the BRG (2018 and later)

YES
  • Hotels.com - April 2019
  • Booking.com - May 2019

MAYBE
  • Skoosh - April 2019 (initially rejected as "membership site" but approved on appeal)
NO
  • SnapTravel
.................................................. ..........

Update in Hyatt BRG policy (July 2017): if your BRG claim is approved, Hyatt will match the comparable lower rate, but will no longer offer a further 20% discount on the matched lower rate. Instead, after your stay on the BRG approved rate, you will receive a US$50 credit (or equivalent amount in the currency of your country of residence) to use on a future stay (completed within 12 months) booked on a Standard Rate, Advance Purchase Rate or Member Rate on Hyatt.com.

Q. How do I receive the $50 credit?
A. About 3-4 days after your BRG stay, Hyatt will email you a unique rate code to apply for your new reservation. You can either click on the link in the mail to book the reservation or manually enter it into the booking at Hyatt.com.

Q. Can I use the code more than once?
A. No. The code is invalid when it has already been attached to a reservation.

Q. Can I use the code to lower a rate like AAA or Double Points?
A. No. The BRG code books into its own unique rate class and can't be used with any other promotional rates.

Q. What happens if I cancel my reservation with the BRG code applied?
A. The code will can be re-used for another reservation. For this reason, DO NOT DELETE THE EMAIL FROM HYATT UNTIL AFTER YOUR STAY.

Q. What happens if a lower base rate appears available after I book the BRG rate?
A. You can cancel the first reservation (assuming there's no penalty) and then rebook using the code for the lower rate.

.................................................. ..........

If you are dissatisfied with the response to your BRG claim, and it was processed by the Hyatt Service Desk in Omaha (9805 Q Street), you can consider filing a consumer complaint (link to online form) with the Nebraska Attorney General's Office (Consumer Protection Division). Note that the online complaint form requires you to fill in a correspondence address in the US (though you can state a preference to receive correspondence by e-mail rather than by post). As reported in Post # 2691, if the AG's Office decides to investigate, it is possible that Hyatt will review your BRG claim again and, in addition, offer points for the inconvenience.

If your BRG claim was processed by the Hyatt Service Desk in Marion (1120 North Carbon Street Suite 70), you can consider filing a consumer complaint (link to online form) with the Illinois Attorney General's Office.

When did they update the terms? Any source?

Is hotel.info a membership site or is it acceptable for BRG? It is not in wiki.

So what happens if Hyatt refuses a BRG for a non-refundable rate. Are we able to get a refund? I would hate to get stuck with a reservation at a much higher rate just due to a denied claim.

If the BRG is rejected, you're stuck with the non-refundable rate you booked. That's the whole purpose of the new rules; Hyatt wants to deter us from making BRG claims.

2 attempts.

5/19 CTRIP showed $160
Submitted BRG denied

5/20 CTRIP showed $168
Responded to BRG with both screen shots, still denied.
"Thank you for your continued interest in our Best Rate Guarantee program. As communicated in the previous email English.ctrip.com does not immediately confirm reservations at the time of booking which is why the website is considered not immediately bookable. It takes 4 to 24 hours for reservations made on English.ctrip.com to be confirmed. You may submit another claim and we will gladly review the claim.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions."

Any way to escalate or don't waste my time anymore?

As of Today CTRIP still shows $168

Forget about ctrip, they rarely, if not never, approve that site.

Ctrip is even rejected by Starwood's easy BRG scheme so forget about it with Hyatt.

Indeed. First the excuse was "you have to book the lowest rate on Hyatt". Then we started booking the member rate which is often lower than the prepaid rate, only to get either "you're not allowed to book member rates since they're not available to the public" (what?) or "the cancellation policy is different" (which I received recently for a $84 easyclicktravel rate on a $200 room rate - no way I'm booking that on Hyatt and getting a BRG denied...)

Moreover, the agents give zero comfort that, if you book a prepaid rate, your claim will be approved.

I have to agree that this is all designed to be a deterrence. When Hyatt first brought in the online form, you would often receive an approval, subject to calling in to agree a change to the cancellation policy. (i.e. prepaid when the competing rate is prepaid)

Are bookings on kayak, when provided by another website, subject to the same issues?

Was denied a claim where the booking would have been made on Kayak.com without having actually going o the 3rd party site.

Denial was due to amoma.com requiring a membership...but this was through kayak???

Annoying that Amoma.com is no longer accepted - it is showing a decent discount on Hyatt Dusseldorf for my dates.

Any other suggested sites for BRGing Hyatts in Europe?

That's a rule that they've made up at some point. You're right - since the booking process is done on Kayak.com (without log-in to a Kayak account) it should be valid as a non-membership OTA - - but being right has nothing to do with BRG programs (not only with Hyatt).

BTW, when booking on Kayak you are in fact charged by the OTA and not by Kayak if I'm not mistaken. Kayak only offers the UI.

That's correct. Kayak sends your information over to amoma.com which in turn books it for you.

BRG refused from getaroom.com "because the getaroom.com rate includes breakfast and Hyatt.com does not"

Really? What kind of joke is this? It just became a double reason to book third party and not via Hyatt.
